What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building Material Estimator position at Honsador Lumber?
About the Role:
As a Building Material Estimator, your main responsibility will be to accurately estimate the quantity of materials needed for residential takeoffs and engineered wood designs. This position will be responsible for creating a detailed list of materials supplied by the Company and itemizing them based on the blueprints and specifications, and quantifying them by counting, calculating area, volume, or length. Ideal candidate will be able to produce accurate quantity takeoffs and/or EWP designs crucial for producing precise cost estimates.
Key Accountabilities:
- Review project specifications, drawings, and other relevant documents to understand project requirements.
- Prepare accurate whole house quantity takeoffs and ensure quantity estimates align with the company’s stocking materials offered and preferred using preferred vendors.
- Prepare EWP design services to include joists, beams, hangers for our stocked material.
- Collaborate with sales team to obtain information to provide accurate takeoffs and/or EWP designs.
- Review and analyze bid documents to ensure compliance with client requirements and specifications.
- Maintain accurate records of correspondence and project estimates.
- Document and update estimating databases with relevant pricing information and project data.
Qualifications:
- 5 years minimum of proficient experience in Residential estimating using construction estimating software (e.g., On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, Procore, Plangrid, Planswift).
- 3-5 years of EWP design experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and building codes.
- Excellent analytical and mathematical skills.
