Under the general direction of the Director of Athletics and the Men’s and Women’s Golf Head Coach, the Graduate Assistant for Men’s and Women’s Golf will assist the head coach in recruiting student-athletes to the program, instruct and develop the student-athlete in the sport of golf. Other duties will include assignments in one or more areas in athletics: fundraising, game management, alumni relations, fitness center supervision, intramurals, event planning, sports information and social media. Instruction should include, but not limited to the rules, strategies, and techniques relating to practice and competition in this sport. The Graduate Assistant will also support the mission and goals of the Athletic Department.
This position is scheduled to begin August 2025. Typically, a full-time GA is required to work 20 hours per week from mid-August to mid-May. Accepted into a Master’s Degree Program at Hood College is required.

Education And/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. Full acceptance into one of the Hood College’s graduate programs required. Knowledge of NCAA Division III rules and regulations preferred.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications
Proficient in MS Office tools (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), e-mail and Internet. Ability to learn new applications quickly including organization-wide information systems and department-specific software applications.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively provide information and positively respond to questions from both external and internal customers both in person and by phone. Ability to develop marketing or promotional materials. Ability to speak effectively before groups of students, parents, or others.
Mathematical Skills
Proficient with statistical and financial concepts. Must have the ability to apply those concepts to tracking, projections, goal setting and interpreting reports. Must be able to draw conclusions from reports and make cost effective decisions regarding programs.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a number of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to work independently and as a member of a group in developing and executing project plans. Ability to work in theoretical arena and apply logic as appropriate.
Compensation
The compensation for Athletic Graduate Assistants consists of a $3,000 annual stipend, a tuition waiver for up to 18 credits per year, campus housing, and a meal plan. This temporary position is not benefits-eligible except for paid Maryland sick leave. Learn more about Hood College.

- Assist with the planning and development of the golf program;
- Train and coach during practice sessions;
- Assist with team academic monitoring;
- Assist in team fundraising.
- Game Management;
- Assist the intramural coordinator with season intramurals;
- Assist with event planning (athletic banquet, fundraisers, golf tournament);
- Work with alumni relations on creating and updating our student-athlete database of alumni;
- Work with our sports information director on social media; newsletters and interviews;
- Assist with our corporate sponsorship outreach.
