What are the responsibilities and job description for the Operations Manager position at Hood Distribution?
Hood Distribution is looking for an Operations Manager for its Durham, CT facility. Hood Distribution is a wholesale distributor of hardwoods, softwoods and imported lumber as well as specialty products for the retail lumber and woodworking industries. This facility is also a wood products manufacturing facility with a finishing mill that produces mouldings and millwork products.
This position reports directly to the Branch Manager and is directly responsible for the supervision of the warehouse staff, drivers, and mill employees. Inventory management and procedural controls are major responsibilities of the position. The Durham facility services the New England, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania markets.
The successful candidate should have experience in warehouse operations, distribution, logistics etc. in wood products or a related field. Specific knowledge of safe fleet operations and warehouse operations are essential. Forklift operator/trainer certification are preferred but not required.
Requirements:
Candidate will manage overall warehouse operations, including receiving, order processing, billing, delivery schedules and inventory management. Manage equipment leases, routine maintenance and necessary repairs on trucks, warehouse equipment, and mill equipment. Oversee DOT compliance, etc. Monitor operational costs to ensure operations are within budget. Candidate will work with inside and outside sales staff as needed to provide sales support and/or information, resolve special delivery issues, etc.
Candidate would provide supervisory guidance, coaching and training to center employees. Assure that all employees receive proper training and maintain their skills in equipment operation. Make all employees safety minded. Assure that all drivers are properly licensed and trained and are observing safe driving and loading/unloading practices.
