What are the responsibilities and job description for the Finishing Supervisor position at Hood Plywood?
The Finishing Supervisor will supervise the department by utilizing the Hood Management Philosophy of “The Hood Way” by engaging people and managing through the process to drive sustainable performance while maintaining positive employee relations, meeting the company’s production goals, and operating within company policies, guidelines, and regulatory requirement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Champion a culture of reliability within the finishing department by fostering a data-driven approach to decision making and encouraging a focus on proactive strategies.
- Provide work directions to the finishing end processing team.
- Communicate regularly with team and management to ensure impeccable communication concerning finishing end issues.
- Monitors the operation of the finish end equipment and systems constantly to minimize unplanned down time.
- Anticipate and solve problems in a timely manner and identify opportunities for improvement through root cause analysis.
- Supervise and coach finishing team and develop staff and self to ensure professional growth.
- Support the implementation of a reliability maintenance and continuous improvement culture.
- Ensure the safety of all employees and contractors. Supporting corporate safety programs, developing SOPs, identifying, and eliminating hazards, and enforcing all safety policies.
- Communicates regularly with team to ensure good two-way communication concerning any issues related to the finishing end.
- Provide leadership and set an example of proper professional conduct for others.
- Understands and remains aware of monthly, weekly, and daily numbers regarding efficiency, productivity, downtime, quality, and safety.
- Leads safety, health, and environmental policies and practices within team..
- May also have additional responsibilities related to the operations of the plant, as assigned.
Preferred Requirements/Qualifications:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred; experience may be used in place of a degree.
- 3-5 years of supervisory experience
- 5 years of experience within a manufacturing environment, with prior wood products experience preferred.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Good knowledge of plant/manufacturing processes.
- Excellent technical aptitude.
- Strong sense of teamwork and collaboration.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in working in wood products.
