What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lay up and Press Lead position at Hood Plywood?
Hood Industries, Inc is seeking a Layup & Press Lead for our Beaumont, Mississippi plywood facility. This is a greenfield site that will employ up to 250 employees. As a Layup & Press Lead, you will play a critical role within the business by ensuring assigned areas operate in the safest, most efficient, and most profitable manner.
Help lead the Layup and Press manufacturing area by utilizing the Hood Philosophy of “The Hood Way” and by engaging people and leading them through the process to drive sustainable performance, while maintaining positive employee relations, meeting the company’s production goals, and operating within company policies, guidelines, and regulatory requirements. This position would provide direct support to supervision and will set an example for co-workers striving for safety, excellence, and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide work directions to the Layup and Press team.
• Coordinate the operation of the Layup and Press team to ensure optimal production quality and efficiency.
• Communicates regularly with team and management to ensure timely 2-way communication concerning layup and/or press issues.
• Monitors the operation of the layup and press equipment and systems constantly to minimize unplanned downtime.
• Anticipate and solve problems in a timely manner and identify opportunities for improvement through root cause analysis.
• Work with supervision to resolve operating, scheduling, and production issues as needed.
• Set the example safety, health and environmental policies and practices within the team.
• Demonstrate proper professional conduct for others.
• Support the implementation of reliability maintenance and continuous improvement culture across the facility.
• Reinforce the continuous improvement process through direct reports.
• Performs basic maintenance checks on the layup line and press, identifying potential equipment malfunctions, and coordinating with maintenance personnel for repairs.
• Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Job Preferences/Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED preferred; Associate or technical degree a plus; experience will be considered in place of education.
• Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Good knowledge of plant/manufacturing processes.
• Strong sense of teamwork and collaboration.
• Ability to effectively direct a team, delegate tasks, and provide clear instructions.
