MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR

Facility Overview:

• The Suffield, CT facility, which opened in 1965, manufactures and distributes ice cream and frozen desert products throughout New England, New York, and regional points along the East Coast.

Position Overview:

• Under direction of the Maintenance Manager, will be responsible for ensuring that all grounds, buildings, and equipment are properly maintained in the most timely and cost-efficient manner.

Job Responsibilities:

• Enforce and follow all company policies and procedures.
• Ensure that work is accomplished in a safe and efficient manner.
• Direct the maintenance workforce and provide on-site expertise.
• Support operational departments by maintaining equipment and resolve mechanical malfunctions to increase productivity, job capabilities, and equipment capabilities at the request of the department.
• Champion proactive maintenance vs. reactive maintenance.
• Plan, schedule, and coordinate all corrective and preventive maintenance activities.
• Plan and execute projects in conjunction with and assigned by the Maintenance Manager.
• Ensure a high quality of work by the maintenance department personnel.
• Verify the qualification of department personnel and recommend training as needed.
• Ensure that all department personnel meet all training requirements.
• Stay abreast of new technologies associated with the industry through training classes and technical manuals.
• Assist with the purchasing for the maintenance department while adhering to budget, and maintaining inventories for appropriate control.
• Assist with the evaluation of service agreements/contracts and submit recommendations to the Maintenance Manager.

Safety Responsibilities:

• Work in a safe and responsible manner at all times, following all safety policies, procedures, and rules;
• Report unsafe observations or conditions;
• Immediately report an injury or accident to a manager;
• Meet all company requirements for training, including but not limited to Log Out/Tag Out, HazMat Technician, PPE, PIT, Ergonomics, etc.

SQF Requirements/Responsibilities:

• Support SQF by maintaining food safety and food quality through completing job tasks and maintaining the work area in a sanitary manner.
• Support SQF through the monitoring of incoming services.
• Support SQF by maintaining the Preventive Maintenance Program and Work Order Program
• Report food safety problems to personnel with authority to initiate action.
• Position is backed up by other Maintenance personnel
• Position is to serve as back up to the Maintenance Manager

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree preferred, and/or a combination of two years of college or vocational training in electrical and preferably additional training in HVAC, plumbing and associated trades. (i.e., building, construction, sanitation.)
• 5 years of Maintenance experience within Food/Beverage/Dairy industry preferred.
• 5 years as a maintenance mechanic, specific to electrical, buildings and grounds.
• At least 3 years of supervisory or managerial experience required.
• Experience within PLC’s and Ammonia Refrigeration preferred.
• Experience working with outside vendors and contractors.

Physical Requirements:

• Stand:  Long periods (minimum of 6 hours)
• Sitting:  Occasionally for short periods.
• Walking:  Frequently.
• Bending:  Occasionally.
• Twisting of Spine:  Occasionally.
• Lifting:  Light (< 30 lbs) infrequently.
• Carrying:  Light (30-50 lbs) infrequently, distance 100 ft.
• Pushing/Pulling:  < 75 lbs without assistance frequently.

Special Requirements:

• 50-60 hour work week
• Ability to work weekends and holiday’s
