Sam Moore Furniture / HF Custom, a division of Hooker Furnishings Corporation (NASDAQ: HOFT), is currently recruiting for a Purchasing Assistant to work in our plant in Bedford, VA. Hooker Furnishings Corporation, in its 100th year of business, is a designer, marketer, and importer of case goods (wooden and metal furniture), leather furniture, and fabric-upholstered furniture for the residential, hospitality, and contract markets. Sam Moore has been crafting high quality upholstered seating for over 80 years.
The Position:
We are looking for a dependable individual with great attention to detail, and a positive attitude with dedication to teamwork, to join our team as a Purchasing Assistant.
Main duties include, but are not limited to:
- Enter POs with vendors for manufacturing supplies and non-inventory plant supplies within the ERP system.
- Issue POs to suppliers as necessary to achieve established inventory and service goals.
- Review and monitor requisitions, supply sources, supplies, quotations, and terms.
- Analyze market and delivery conditions to determine future material availability.
- Follow up with vendors on delivery dates, shortages, and all other applicable communication as directed.
- Upon receipt of goods, verify receivers, match, organize, and coordinate with accounts payable for payment.
Candidates that will be a great fit will:
- Be proficient in MS Office - Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Have excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Demonstrate the ability to navigate in-house software systems smoothly
- Be quick learners and can work independently with minimal supervision
- Demonstrate a passion to serve others
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent (associate degree or business degree a plus)
- Have previous Purchasing Assistant experience, preferably in the furniture industry (preferred, not required)
- Have knowledge of purchasing functions, inventory, and supply management systems (preferred, not required)
- ERP system experience (preferred, not required)

This is a Full-Time, On-Site, Day-Shift position.
Shift: Day Shift- 7 am start time
Pay: Depending on experience.
