Job Overview
The successful candidate will be responsible for designing fire protection systems in accordance with applicable government codes and project specifications. The role involves creating detailed layouts, conducting site surveys, and collaborating with various trades to ensure seamless project execution.
- Key Responsibilities:
- Design and layout fire protection systems that meet local, state, and national codes within the scope of assigned contracts.
- Perform complex hydraulic calculations to support system design.
- Conduct thorough site surveys to determine actual site conditions and ensure designed systems fit building structures.
- Create accurate material cut lists for fabrication and address questions from shop and field personnel.
- Obtain plan approvals from relevant agencies.
- Prepare comprehensive submittal packages to meet project requirements.
- Coordinate design drawings and piping layouts with various trades on the project.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders to resolve design issues and change orders.
Description of Work Environment
- Work in a standard office environment and visit clients regularly, requiring regular driving a personal vehicle.
- Occasionally work on field construction sites in various weather conditions to survey site conditions and resolve coordination issues with trades.
Requirements
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum 2-5 years' experience in fire protection system design.
- Two-year associate degree in engineering, preferably in fire protection technology.
- Proficiency in latest computerized design applications, e.g., AutoCAD software.
- Strong understanding of NFPA and other local and state codes.
- Valid Driver's License.
