General Summary:

This position plans, implements and supervises all project, facility and fleet related safety programs and policies for the Mechanical division of Hooper Corporation. This position is responsible for the implementation of safety programs and initiatives within the mechanical division. Conducts risk management reviews of the Hooper project related processes. Also coordinates safety activities, policy development, and establishes safety goals and objectives with other Division Safety Managers.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Conducts research study of Hooper operations and processes to identify historical loss trends. Identifies current existing safety hazards and potential financial loss producing work processes. Documents results and develops programs and policies to address those company risks.
  • Develops strategic goals and objectives for Hooper safety function and defines and implements appropriate action plan.
  • Develops accident prevention and loss control systems and programs for incorporation into the Hooper operational policies. Communicates and coordinates implementation with all management staff.
  • Reviews and updates company safety policies and procedures and develops company safety training curriculum; conducts safety training for all Hooper management and field employees.
  • Acts as OSHA, DOT, EPA, DNR and local fire department liaison for Hooper. Ensures company compliance. Accompanies all agency representatives on site tours. Performs accident investigations, conducts or coordinates RCA (root cause analysis) and coordinates compliance outcomes of those investigations.
  • Reviews Safety onboarding training materials periodically and collaborates with the Safety training Team for upkeep of the same.
  • Participates in Division and project meetings as appropriate; chairs quarterly Safety Committee meetings and coordinates implementation of company-wide safety committees as warranted.
  • Assists in effective management of all workers compensation and casualty claims; implements light/restricted work program; works closely with Corporate Claims Administrator to ensure effective management of claims.
  • Devises methods to evaluate safety program effectiveness and keeps management informed of company safety statistics, OSHA compliance; loss cost and conducts regular on-going evaluations.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of the latest developments in the construction industry safety field.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety/health or equivalent.
  • 5 years’ safety experience in construction or general safety industry.
  • Strong interpersonal and group presentation skills.
  • Thorough understanding and ability to enforce all federal, state, local and Company safety regulations.

Description Of Physical Working Environment

  • Works in a normal office environment and makes project site visits (as needed) requiring driving personal vehicle. When in the office, regularly works from a sitting position with a computer. Repetitive typing and computer use required. Regular bending, twisting, and light lifting is common.
  • Works on field construction site in all kinds of weather to survey site conditions and potential unsafe conditions with the field crew.
  • Ability to climb up and down ladders and steps on site is required.
