CIVICS (8) HISTORY TEACHER
We are looking for an enthusiastic, innovative, and student-centered 8th Grade Civics Teacher to lead our civics curriculum using the Democratic Knowledge Project framework. This curriculum is designed to empower students with a comprehensive understanding of democratic principles, government systems, civil rights, and the responsibilities of citizenship. You will guide students in exploring key concepts through discussions, debates, case studies, and project-based learning, helping them become informed and engaged participants in their communities.
Key Responsibilities:
Teach 8th-grade students civics content through the Democratic Knowledge Project curriculum, focusing on foundational democratic principles, critical thinking, and civil engagement.
Develop and implement engaging, student-centered lesson plans that promote inquiry, discussion, and active participation.
Foster a classroom environment that encourages open dialogue, respect for diverse perspectives, and collaborative problem-solving.
Assess student progress through regular formative and summative assessments, providing timely and constructive feedback.
Promote students’ understanding of local, state, and national governance, as well as their roles in a democratic society.
Integrate technology and multimedia resources to enhance lessons and create interactive learning experiences.
Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and families to support student growth and success.
Participate in professional development opportunities to continue growing as an educator.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Education, Political Science, History, or a related field (required).
Valid teaching certification in Massachusetts (or ability to obtain certification).
Passion for teaching middle school students and fostering civic literacy.
Strong knowledge of U.S. history, government, and democratic principles.
Experience with or willingness to learn and implement the Democratic Knowledge Project curriculum.
Excellent communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
Ability to create an inclusive, engaging, and respectful classroom environment.
Previous experience teaching middle school students is a plus.
