What are the responsibilities and job description for the PHYSCIAL EDUCATION/HEALTH TEACHER position at Hoosac Valley Regional School District?
A physical education teacher provides a developmentally appropriate educational program for students in elementary school. The teacher is responsible for supervising students within the physical education classroom and/or gymnasium and other assigned areas; developing lesson plans and delivering instruction within established curriculum guidelines; adjusting curricula to adapt to children with disabilities or different physical abilities; collaborating with other teachers, professional staff, and administrators to improve instruction; and engaging parents/guardians in conversations with regard to instructional programs and student progress. Under the direction of authorized administrators shall: Teach knowledge and skills in physical fitness; Instruct pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills and other general elements of the course of study common to all teachers, as specified in state law, administrative regulations and procedures of the school district; Analyze, demonstrate, and explain basic skills, knowledge and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement; Provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil, to the extent feasible; Provide appropriate safety instruction and make safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of pupils; Maintain control of storage and use of school-owed property; Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas; Evaluate pupils' growth in physical skills, knowledge and contribution in team sports; Communicate with parents and school counselors on pupil progress; Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems; Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities; Participate in curriculum development programs as required; Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the building principal or the Superintendent of Schools.
