RushShelby Energy (RSE), located in Manilla, IN, is looking for a full-time Groundman B to join our Operations team and help serve our 12,400 members on 2,100 miles of energized line within nine (9) East-Central Indiana counties. DESCRIPTION
The Groundman B position is a non-union position that works as part of a union electrical utility crew in construction and maintenance of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems and performs other related work as required. See below for more details and requirements.
ESSENTIAL AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Assist in the construction and maintenance of overhead and underground electrical systems as required
- Responsible to maintain tools, materials and supplies, vehicles, and equipment assigned to your crew by the crew leader or foreman
- Assist in working and cutting right-of-way when needed
- Participate in job training, tailgate and safety meetings
- Learn to read and interpret work orders, job tickets, sketches, and other diagrams
- Be responsible for daily inspections, service and maintenance of assigned vehicles and equipment
- Show concern for member’s property and ensure all work areas are left in a clean and safe condition
- Assist in handling emergencies and outages as directed on a 24-hour basis
- Work on non-energized cable and wire as necessary
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions/climates and environments, day or night

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have an equivalent of the following education and/or experience:
- High School Diploma or satisfactory GED equivalent
- Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Basic electric theory and knowledge of safe work rules and procedures
- A valid Indiana Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is recommended
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability and willingness to work with all RushShelby Energy employees, members, and general public to complete assigned tasks
- Ability and willingness to work unsupervised
- Ability and willingness to learn the materials, tools and methods used in electrical construction, installation, and maintenance
- Must participate in all safety training and education opportunities
- Must be able to: lift up to 50 pounds, bend in all directions, climb ladders and poles, squeeze with arms and hands, pull and lower items up to 100 pounds, correctly and safely use a shovel, swing a sledgehammer, and operate machinery using hands and legs
- Must possess strong member service skills
- Must project a positive public image and maintain satisfactory public relations
- Must represent the Cooperative with professionalism at all times, including but not limited to during all member and community interactions, while driving a company vehicle, while wearing company logoed apparel, etc.
- Must have ability to work effectively in a changing environment
- Must be able to think quickly and act effectively in emergency situations
- Must have strong problem-solving and decision-making skills to identify, anticipate and resolve problems
- Must have strong sensory skills, such as good hearing, dexterity and good eyesight, including the use of color perception.
- Must be able and willing to respond to after-hours emergency calls on a 24-hour basis
- Must work overtime as needed and/or required
- Must have ability and willingness to attend meetings, training, technical conferences and/or complete other educational opportunities that may require travel and/or overnight stays to maintain and improve competence
- Must have willingness to relocate to and permanently reside in a predefined limit from RSE headquarters
- Must successfully complete a job-tasked physical-ability evaluation, pre-employment physical, drug screen and background check
- Once obtained, must maintain a valid Indiana Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
