JOB TITLE: Student Services Coordinator
REPORTS TO: Chief Administrative Officer
JOB GOAL: To assist in promoting and advancing educational opportunities for students within the Hoover City Schools District
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A master's degree from an accredited institution with an Alabama Professional Educator Certificate in administration and supervision
A minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience
A minimum of three (3) years administrative experience
Demonstrated leadership and supervisory qualities
Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively with all groups of individuals
Proficiency in verbal and written communication skills
Successful participation in professional development activities on the individual, local school, and school system levels
Ability to proficiently use current technology to communicate, manage data, and produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Strong interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication skills
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as state, federal, and local law and the Board may require
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, mission, goals, and priorities
Develops, updates, and maintains an attendance program designed to enforce compulsory school attendance laws; provides training on related issues, including attendance reporting and improvement; and ensures uniform compliance
Assists with system enrollment practices, including verifications and athletic eligibility
Serves as a liaison between the District/Student Services department, schools, courts, parents, and students
Assists in the administration and evaluation of the Early Warning and Attendance Programs
Monitors, attends, and represents the District in judicial proceedings related to attendance issues in Bessemer, Birmingham, and Shelby County Courts
Identifies attendance concerns through home visits, school visits, and conferences; advises administrators, parents, and students regarding compulsory education laws and consequences of habitual truancy
Assists school officials, teachers, and parents in developing a plan of action for at-risk students
Cooperates with school officials, counselors, juvenile court, and other social agencies dealing with cases of known, suspected, or probable delinquency concerns
Assists with the identification of McKinney Vento Students
Coordinates the placement of irregular enrollments
Provides oversight to the district mental health counselor
Serves as the Hearing Officer for all Class III appeals
Assists with providing administrative support on-site when needed in the absence of school administrators
Serves on district committees as appropriate
Stays abreast of all applicable federal, state, and local laws and statutes directly impacting Student Services
Makes recommendations concerning policy or practice to improve the quality of the school system
Verifies residency regarding enrollment and fraudulent acts of enrollment
Utilizes technology to benefit Student Services in efficiency and accuracy of all tasks
Accepts such responsibilities from the Chief of Administrative Services or Superintendent as delegated and assumes full responsibility for discharging them
Adheres to local Board policies, administrative procedures, and other like directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws
Performs other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s)
