JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Middle School Instructional Coach
REPORTS TO: Principal/Chief Learning Officer or Designee
JOB GOAL: To help ensure teachers are supported in delivering high-quality instruction, ultimately improving student learning outcomes in
the middle school setting
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Meets applicable federal, state, and local certification/qualification requirements for the position
Holds a bachelor’s degree in a related educational field; master's degree preferred
Holds a valid Alabama professional certificate in education or special education; certification in instructional leadership is preferred
Has five (5) years of experience as a K-12 classroom or special education teacher; middle school teaching experience is preferred.
Demonstrates expertise in instruction and intervention, as attested by a current or former employing city or county superintendent of education
Successful experience with leading adult learners preferred
Proficiency in oral and written communication skills
Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication, presentation, and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups
Ability to use technology to communicate, to plan and provide instruction, to facilitate learning, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports and correspondence
Ability to meet suitability criteria under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, mission, goals, and priorities
Engages in coaching cycles to provide support in developing effective, research-based instructional strategies
Helps teachers set and achieve student achievement and student growth goals
Helps teachers use student assessment data to inform instruction
Organizes training on new educational tools, teaching methods, or curriculum updates
Provides ongoing learning opportunities for teachers individually and through professional learning communities (PLCs)
Collaborates with teachers to develop, review, and revise curriculum guides
Ensures curriculum alignment with state standards and school goals
Supports teachers in adapting instructional materials and methods for diverse learners
Assists in analyzing student performance data to identify areas of improvement
Fosters a culture of continuous improvement by promoting peer collaboration and the sharing of successful teaching strategies among staff.
Provides strategies for effective classroom management
Helps teachers create a positive and engaging learning environment
Advises on methods to differentiate instruction for diverse student needs
Works closely with grade-level teams or subject-area departments to improve instructional practices
Promotes peer collaboration and the sharing of successful teaching strategies
Assists in promoting school-wide initiatives focused on enhancing instruction and student outcomes
Provides leadership in educational technology integration by supporting teachers in effectively incorporating technology into their instruction.
Identifies and recommends educational resources, materials, and tools for teachers
Helps teachers identify resources for differentiated instruction and intervention strategies
Conducts classroom observations to provide constructive feedback
Models lessons and co-teaches with teachers when appropriate
Follows up on action plans and goals established during coaching sessions.
Engages with parents and the community when needed, particularly in supporting student success
Provides teachers with strategies to improve communication with families about student progress
Remains current with trends in education, teaching methods, and student needs.
Attends professional development sessions, conferences, and other learning opportunities
Reflects on personal coaching practices and continuously seeks ways to improve
Assists assigned schools with the development and implementation of school improvement plans, including CIP goals, strategies, and instructional action steps.
Adheres to local Board policies, administrative procedures, and other like directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws
Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Supervisor(s)
