ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Leadership and Managerial Functions:

  • Functions as a self-starter, setting high personal standards and pursuing goals with a high level of personal drive and energy.
  • Functions as an effective member of work groups, gaining the respect and cooperation of others.
  • Personally promotes a work environment that reflects a positive atmosphere, high employee satisfaction and competence, and strong evidence of teamwork.
  • Demonstrates the leadership, initiative, and persistence needed to accomplish goals and objectives.
  • Assigns tasks to personnel capable of carrying them out.
  • Establishes clear vision and direction for the Specialty Hospital.
  • Creates an organizational culture that is needed to carry out the mission, strategic directions and organizational goals.
  • Monitors current budget and operational data to assure continued success of the Specialty Hospital.
  • Employs a system of responsible accounting, including budget and internal controls, with assistance from the Finance Director.
  • Displays leadership in financial management from conceptual strategies through recommending policy, executing fiscal procedures for control and effective utilization of physical and financial resources of the hospital.
  • Creates value by recommending appropriate actions and strategies to respond to projected
    economic and utilization trends within the organization.
  • Challenges, motivates, evaluates, and rewards employees and managers toward the achievement of goals and objectives.
  • Behaves ethically and honestly. Communicates openly in all directions, while fostering trust.
  • Allocates resources effectively and ethically.

Planning and Strategic Leadership:

  • Develops and maintains a strategic plan for the Specialty Hospital with the Governing Board, Physicians and Management.
  • Develops alternative strategies when current environment changes.
  • Monitors progress of plan with Board, Medical Staff, Management and Employees.
  • Provides proactive, sound guidance to maneuver the Specialty Hospital into the most advantageous position.
  • Thinks strategically, possesses vision, adjusts to change, builds advantageous coalitions, and fosters team spirit in the organization.

Board Relations:

  • Works closely with Governing Board and HOPCo leadership in developing the mission and long and short-range strategic plans.
  • Communicates well with the Governing Board providing appropriate information at and between meetings.
  • Works with HOPCo Leadership and Governing Board to create an optimal governance environment.
  • Supports the policies, procedures, and philosophy of the Governing Board.
  • Creates a sense of trustworthiness in Board/CEO relations.
  • Prepares management recommendations in advance so they can be acted upon by the policy-making body, guarding against “surprises” occurring during the Board meetings and achieving a smooth working relationship with the Governing Board.

Medical Staff Relations:

  • Maintains a good rapport with the medical staff.
  • Communicates with and works closely with the medical staff members on matters of mutual concern.
  • Functions as an effective liaison between the board and medical staff.
  • Meets as needed with physicians individually and at appropriate meeting
  • Develops an understanding of the physician needs, attitudes and objectives to blend those with the functions and strategic objectives of the hospi
  • Strives to develop an effective, collaborative partnership with the medical staff to maintain communications and positive momentum.

Community Relations/Political Effectiveness:

  • Develops programs promoting a positive image of the Specialty Hospital and creates awareness of available services to local community.
  • Represents the Specialty Hospital in community activities.
  • Establishes the respect of his/her peers in local, state, and national health care organizations.
  • Maintains an active advocacy role in promoting the needs of the Specialty Hospital and its mission.
  • Effectively communicates activities of the hospital to the residents of the hospital service area.

EDUCATION

Master’s degree in business administration, public health, health care administration, or related in healthcare administration, management, business, or related field.

EXPERIENCE

  • 5 years of increasingly responsible administrative leadership experience in a healthcare or related field.
  • Experience representing a hospital and/or medical practice to its community, with evidence of strengthening the hospital’s presence and impact.
  • Proven track record of partnering with medical staff to achieve desired facility-specific and organizational outcomes.
  • Strong financial and business acumen, including a keen understanding of operational and financial measures that define success, as well as budgeting and forecasting methodologies, including working knowledge of capital planning and capital investment practices.
  • Knowledge of modern national trends in hospital quality and patient safety.

REQUIREMENTS

Board Certified American College of Healthcare Executives Fellow (FACHE) credential strongly preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrates thorough knowledge and understanding of hospital management and operations.
  • Assures the Specialty Hospital’s quality assurance plan is reviewed and revised as necessary on an annual basis.
  • Assures the Specialty hospital is in accordance with applicable standards, codes, laws, and regulations.
  • Anticipates trends and opportunities affective hospital operations and develops an appropriate and timely response.
  • Develops and coordinates systems to monitor and improve clinical quality of care and satisfaction of services rendered.
  • Maintains adequate first-hand knowledge of patient and family opinions of their care experience.

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Normal office environment. Includes travel within the community.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS

  • Requires sitting and standing associated with normal office environment. Some bending and stretching required. Manual dexterity using a calculator and computer keyboard.

ORGANIZATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • HOPCo Mission, Vision and Values must be acknowledged and adhered to.
  • Models mission, vision and values of the organization.
  • Demonstrates lifelong learning through professional development, continuing education and promotes the same for all staff.
  • Must meet OSHA requirements with annual safety training.
