What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director Finance Operations position at HOPCo?
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Develops and plans Specialty Hospital and department objectives with the Executive Director and staff including short- and long-range plans for budgeting, profit analysis, accounting systems, and internal auditing.
- Directs financial accounting functions to ensure timely and accurate reporting of Specialty Hospital and department financial information.
- Assists in the timely payment of current liabilities to creditors, proper recording and control of cash receipts, recording of fixed assets, development of adequate procedures, instructions, controls, records and reports by assisting HOPCo and Acute Care Facility corporate accounting.
- Works with the Executive Director, the HOPCo and Acute Care Facility accounting teams to review and approve financial statements, including balance sheets, profit/loss statements and analysis of variances in accounts, ratios, financial statistics income/expense, as well as investments analysis using information provided by HOPCo and the Acute Care Facility
- Reviews third-party contracts and monitors contract revenues. Interacts with auditors, lenders and third-party agencies regarding accounting functions.
- Monitors and assists with the internal audit program for HOPCo and the Acute Care Facility to ensure internal financial controls.
- Assists with the annual financial audit/review and any other special audits.
- Assists with the development and implementation of the annual operating and capital budget process.
- Directs, forecasts, and analyzes the impact of special projects or new services and acquisitions (i.e. proposed new locations, equipment purchases) on the Specialty Hospital.
- Assists the Executive Director in the development and preparation of financial reports.
- Attends meetings with management to review and discuss Specialty Hospital budgets and financial issues.
- Works in a collaborative way with HOPCo and Acute Care Facility corporate financial and accounting management.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree in finance/accounting. Master’s degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of three years hospital financial management experience.
REQUIREMENTS
- CPA preferred
- HFMA Certification or Membership preferred
KNOWLEDGE
- Finance and accounting functions including budgeting, hospital cost accounting, credit, investments, internal controls.
- Computer systems, spreadsheet and financial systems programs and applications.
- Management practices to lead staff.
- Hospital operations and strategic business objectives.
- Financial and accounting reporting software.
SKILLS
- Analyzing financial data and preparing appropriate related reports.
- Relating organizational objectives to financial policies on costs, fees, credit, etc.

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS
- Normal office environment.
- 25 % travel required primarily with the state between health system sites.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS
- Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment. Some bending and stretching required. Manual dexterity using a calculator and computer keyboard.
ORGANIZATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- HOPCo and Specialty Hospital Mission, Vision and Values must be acknowledged and adhered to
- Must meet OSHA requirements with annual safety training.
