Job Summary: The Associate Chaplain will direct pastoral care and daily spiritual support for students, faculty, and parents, with a focus on Chapel execution, student mentorship, and class Chaplain support. The Chaplain interacts with students, families and HCS staff in a manner that exhibits character through personal and spiritual disciplines.
Essential Functions:
Pastoral Counseling and Student Support
- Provide one-on-one and small group pastoral counseling for students and families.
- Pastoral care for faculty and staff.
- Partner with the Chaplain and administration to support students. Refer to outside Christian counseling service or professional resource when necessary.
Chapel and Worship Leadership
- Lead and coordinate Chapel services, ensuring meaningful and engaging worship.
- Support leading all-school Chapels.
- Mentor and train students in worship leadership
- Manage and establish Chapel programming and collaborate with the Chaplain to review guest speakers.
- Collaborate with Elementary School Chapel Coordinator.
Student Leadership and Discipleship
- Mentor and oversee class Chaplains and supervise the student body Chaplain program.
- Assist planning and leading student retreats.
- Provide on-site relational ministry and lead small groups and Bible studies.
Missions and Outreach
- Support and organize school mission trips, service projects and community outreach opportunities.
- Supporting students in finding and engaging with service opportunities.
Bible Department and Teacher Support
- Collaborate with the Chaplain on curriculum development.
- Provide pastoral support for Bible teachers and extended HCS staff.
- Assist in classroom visits and discussion to encourage student engagement.
- Serve on leadership committees as necessary.
- Have received Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and is actively involved with a local church.
- Reflect the purpose of the school, which is to honor Christ.
- Comply with all Hope Christian School policies and procedures and attend all required meetings/trainings including but not limited to faculty meetings, student Chapels, staff Chapels, in-service trainings, required school functions, etc.
- Bachelor’s degree in theology, biblical studies, or a related field.
- Proven ability in teaching and counseling. Previous Christian school experience preferred.
- 5 years experience in full time youth ministry or equivalent.
- Ordained by an evangelical church or denomination.
- Ability to provide ministry and leadership in interdenominational evangelical community.
- Spiritual maturity and commitment to a Christian lifestyle and to HCS values.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to communicate and interact effectively with leadership, employees and families.
- Demonstrated computer proficiency using Google Suites, Microsoft Office, or other equivalent software, internet, email messaging, and web-based software applications. Ability to understand and learn new technology programs.
