Hope Connections for Cancer Support is an independent, community-based nonprofit organization founded in 2005. Our mission is to help people with cancer and their loved ones deal with cancer's emotional and physical impact through professionally facilitated programs. All programs are donor-supported and provided free of charge to those affected by cancer. We have two locations: Bethesda, Montgomery County, and Landover, Prince George's County.

We are seeking a self-driven and dynamic Director of Development to collaborate closely with the President and CEO to deliver on the organization's vision and mission while achieving fundraising goals. The director will develop and execute the annual and long-term fundraising plan.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in increasing donor and grant-giving in a philanthropic environment. This position is ideal for someone with leadership experience who can multitask while prioritizing deadlines, deliver exceptional customer service, and utilize keen problem-solving and judgment skills.

Employment: Full-time position reporting to the President & CEO

Key overall responsibilities:

· Operationalize strategic vision from the President & CEO to increase fundraising for the organization.

· Develop and implement a successful grant funding program to increase foundation, government, and corporate giving.

· Partner with the CEO to develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors.

· Demonstrate a shared organizational culture of philanthropy.

· Manage the Marketing and Community Outreach Manager and collaborate with the Program Director and Event Director to develop and implement a member engagement, retention, and recruitment plan.

· Regularly compile and present comprehensive reports on fundraising activities and progress to the CEO and the board of directors. Use data to inform strategy adjustments and demonstrate impact.

Fundraising:

· Assist with the development and implementation of the annual fundraising plan.

· Manage the key donor portfolio.

· Cultivate and maintain relationships with a portfolio of major donors, corporate sponsors, and foundations.

· Engage in personalized outreach and stewardship activities to ensure donor satisfaction and loyalty.

  • Supervise maintenance of the CRM for records of donor, participant, and sponsor contact information.
  • Provide support for communications with donors and prospects.

Grant Management

· Increase sources for grant funding that align with the organization's mission from corporate, foundation, and government sources.

· Draft compelling grant proposals, ensuring alignment with HCCS programs, initiatives, and mission, including managing the submission process to secure funding.

· Ensure compliance with all grant requirements.

· Oversee the tracking of grant expenditures and the preparation of required reports to funders.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor's degree. Master's degree preferred.

· Minimum of 6-8 years of previous experience in donor development, grant-making, and fundraising, preferably in the nonprofit sector.

· Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.

· Work autonomously and contribute to a cohesive small team environment.

· Deep understanding of and focus on moves management, relationship building, corporate support, and major gifts fundraising in annual and multi-year planning timeframes.

· Demonstrated experience in researching grant-makers and writing successful grant proposals.

· Effective communication skills, including written, interpersonal, and verbal.

· Excellent project management and collaboration skills with both internal and external partners.

· Excellent presentation skills.

· Experience in managing and tracking funds received from donors and analyzing the collected data to drive increased giving using fundraising technology.

· Benchmarking, reporting, and budgeting experience, including cash flow projections, expense controls, financial approvals, and annual forecasting.

· Knowledge and experience in fundraising theories, principles, and procedures.

· Proficiency with social media platforms.

Technical Skills

· Familiarity with donor databases/CRMs

· Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

Work Location

Hope Connections is located in Bethesda and Landover, Maryland, and candidates are required to work in the office at least four days per week. However, they may reside anywhere in the surrounding area, allowing for a flexible, hybrid work arrangement.

Salary and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary package aligned with industry standards for this position. The package includes 80% coverage for medical, dental, and vision premiums, 100% coverage for basic short-term and long-term disability and life insurance, and paid vacation and sick time.

Our hybrid, in-person, and virtual programs serve over 4000 people with cancer and their loved ones per year.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $110,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
