Hope Farm School is a groundbreaking boarding school for inner-city middle school and high school boys. Our mission is to disciple, train, and educate young men in the Spirit of Jesus Christ, all in a farm setting. We have 25 students, half Hispanic and half African American.
Overview:
The Education Director and Head Teacher is responsible for the overall academic direction and management of Hope Farm School’s educational programs (20 male students, grades 6-12). The most crucial part of the role is the ability to connect with the students and motivate them to engage in the learning process. The details of the role involve developing and implementing curriculum, managing teachers and volunteers, tracking student progress, and teaching a significant portion of the classes.
Key Responsibilities:
● Curriculum Development:
○ Research, develop, and implement a comprehensive curriculum aligned with educational standards and student needs.
○ Continuously review and update curriculum to reflect current best practices and the wide variety of student needs.
● Teacher and Volunteer Management:
○ Train teaching staff (4 people) to tutor in math and reading.
○ Provide ongoing development and support to teachers and volunteers.
○ Evaluate teacher and volunteer performance and provide feedback.
● Student Academic Progress:
○ Track student academic progress through assessments and observations.
○ Identify and address learning gaps and challenges.
○ Implement strategies to support student achievement and success.
● Classroom Instruction:
○ Teach the majority of the required middle school and high school classes, demonstrating effective teaching methods, classroom management, and engaging students.
○ Foster in students the belief that they can succeed and a love of learning.
○ Hold students accountable to participate in class, complete assigned work, and take ownership of their education.
● Administrative Duties:
○ Manage the educational budget.
○ Develop and manage teacher, volunteer, and student schedules.
○ Order all school supplies and curriculum materials.
○ Ensure compliance with all relevant educational regulations and standards.
○ Generate report cards and transcripts.
○ Communicate and meet with parents to update them on student progress.
Qualifications:
● Born again faith in Jesus Christ
● Bachelor’s Degree
● Teaching Experience
● Strong interpersonal skills, specifically relating to inner-city teenage boys.
● Passion for education and a commitment to providing high-quality learning experiences.
Additional Skills (Preferred):
● Spanish language proficiency.
● Familiarity with gardening and some farming exposure
