Hope For Youth OASAS Primary Prevention Program provides children, adults, families and community stakeholders with the education, support, and tools needed to refrain from engaging in substance and alcohol use. The OASAS Primary Prevention Program utilizes evidence-based models and psycho educational presentations to reach community members.

Hope for Youth's OASAS licensed program is hiring a Part Time 17.5 hour a week Substance Use Prevention Specialist. The Prevention program is grant program through New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services. The Prevention Specialist will be responsible for presenting various evidenced based curriculum, in school classrooms located in the Town of Babylon. The Specialist will also be responsible for attending and leading community awareness events in the Town of Babylon. The intent of the program is to provide elementary school age children with the skills needed to refrain from engaging in alcohol and substance use and to raise awareness in the community.

To be a successful Prevention Specialist you must be ready, willing, and able to do the following always :

Function within the policies and procedures as outlined in program practice guide and employee manual
Adhere to state regulations and applicable code of conduct
Perform other resulting and necessary work to meet the needs and requirements of the clients, the program, Hope for Youth, oversight agency and any other regulatory obligations

How you will generally spend your time in this job :

Developing, planning and conducting evidence-based school character building, psychoeducational, and social emotional programing for school aged children in the Town of Babylon.

Implementing strategies to raise awareness of alcohol and drug related issues in the community.

Conducting surveys of alcohol and drug related issues to develop new prevention / education.

Developing, planning, and coordinating community events on gambling awareness, prevention and substance awareness and prevention

Attend training and professional development as assigned.

Attend meetings as assigned.

Provide social emotional / character building programing in camps located in the Town of Babylon.

To qualify for this job you need to be or have at minimum :

High School Diploma, CASAC, CPP or CPS preferred

Preferably one year of experience working with children and adolescents or community action work.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Ability to practice within the scope of OASAS Prevention regulations.

Driving; Driving positions require NYS License, in good standing and drivers must be 21 years of age or older.

Computer skills are essential.

Access to a reliable vehicle that can be used on a regular basis for work.

Excellent writing skills / time management.

Ability to be flexible with scheduling (work evenings, possible weekends if necessary).

Physical Requirements : read / write reports and log entries, walking / standing for prolonged periods, bending / stooping, kneeling / squatting, climbing stairs, reaching overhead, repetitive wrist / finger movements, ongoing access to reliable vehicle and driving own vehicle for work.

This opportunity is being offered as Part-Time 17.5hrs / week. Days can be flexible and include weekends per program needs. Hours are flexible, averaging 9am-5pm / 8am-4pm typically.
