FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt (Hourly)
SUMMARY STATEMENT:
Hope Haven’s tutors are direct service professionals who provide educational assistance and guidance to children with and without special need to help them perform academically to their fullest potential. Tutors support students with a wide variety of exceptionalities in understanding and mastering subject matter content while promoting effective learning strategies. Tutors also work with an agency-wide multidisciplinary team year-round to best serve the students.
Tutors are role models to friends, families and staff and they are expected to maintain a friendly and supportive atmosphere, promote safety and respect, and ensure their words and actions reflect the values of our organization. Tutors are assigned based on student requirements. Working hours may be adjusted based on organizational need.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
· Assess the student’s current understanding and identify areas in need of improvement. Develop personalized study plans to address academic gaps and build on strengths.
· Provide one on one tutoring to students with learning disabilities, such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, autism spectrum, to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.
· Support a learning environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
· Prepare lessons and other instructional materials to student ability levels.
· Teach effective study techniques, time management skills, and organization methods to enhance the student’s learning experience.
· Work closely with parents to support student growth (provide feedback on sessions, attend parent meetings, etc).
Administrative Expectations
- Check and respond emails and other communications daily.
- Maintain outlook calendar and communication with other DSPs.
- Participate in team trainings and meetings.
- Identify and participate in professional and personal growth opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Orton Gillingham approach or reading background preferred.
· Elementary writing and math skills a plus.
· SAT/ACT experience a plus.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $20.00 - $27.00 per hour
Expected hours: 5 – 25 per week
