Job Overview
We are seeking a home study writer for the Northwest area of Colorado, specifically in and near Moffatt county. This individual will support the clinical and programmatic activities of Hope & Home by assessing a new family's readiness and suitability to be a foster parent and implement trauma-informed parenting. The home study writer will work with our licensing department, interviewing and evaluating a potential foster family prior to licensure.
Responsibilities
- Review all relevant documents, including background check results, letter of intent, application, questionnaires, references, etc. to complete a full assessment of the family.
- Interview potential foster families and complete a home study in accordance with Structured Analysis Family Evaluation (SAFE) requirements.
- Maintain, document, and submit all relevant questionnaires and accessory SAFE documents compiled through the home study process.
- Complete home inspections to ensure compliance with State, County, and Hope & Home regulations and requirements.
- Assess a potential foster family’s readiness and suitability for the expectations and challenges of foster care.
- Participate in monthly group supervision, as well as required supervision throughout the home study process for each family assessment with assigned Hope & Home SAFE Supervisor.
- Complete ongoing education required by the State and Hope & Home, as well as complete required continuing education per SAFE.
- Other duties as assigned and designated by supervisor.
Experience
- Proven experience in writing, preferably within the fields of social work or child welfare.
- Familiarity with topics related to foster care, adoption, child welfare, and child protective services is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of the challenges faced by children and families within these systems.
- Excellent communication skills to include relationship-building, developing rapport, and interviewing experience
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and discuss sensitive topics.
*This position is contract work, being reimbursed per home study completed with the hourly wage only paid for supplemental activities like training and meetings.
*This position is remote as there are no required hours in the office. However, you must reside in the Northwest Colorado area in order to do home visits/interviews with families
*Hours are flexible and the home study writer is able to schedule their interviews and writing time according to their availability in combination with the availability of applicant families.
