Position Objective:

Provide consistent shelter coverage between 8 P.M. and 8 A.M. overnights and weekend day shifts as needed in order to help maintain a safe and secure environment for all guests, staff, and volunteers at Hope House of Manitowoc County. Basic work is between 24 and 36 hours per week. This is an overnight shift position with some weekend day shifts. This is a sleep overnight position. Staff will have access to a staff bedroom. Staff may also during day shifts read, be on their phone, watch tv, etc.

Responsibilities:

Main Position Duties:

  • Check-in with volunteer at the beginning of your shift for any necessary information.
  • Conduct walk through at least at the beginning and end of shift
  • Answer the door and allow guests coming back after-hours into the building. Let non-guests know they will need to come back during regular business hours.
  • Supervise shelter until morning worker arrives and can take over supervision.
  • Ensure guests are following guidelines.
  • Provide supporting listening for guests as needed.
  • Maintain professional boundaries with guests.
  • Close and check required lock doors after shelter curfew and guests are all in house.
  • Check-in with staff or volunteer at the end of your shift to relay any necessary information.
  • May sleep, read, watch tv quietly, be on a device if you so choose to do so.

General Operations:

  • Provide consistent staff coverage at the Shelter as necessary.
  • Manage crisis situations in a safe, effective manner and notify the on-call staff of situations that occur, seeking assistance from the Director as needed.
  • Work with staff to turnover and clean guest rooms as needed (following exit) and prepare for new families/households.
  • Implement and abide by program guidelines including confidentiality policy and accurately communicate such to clients, referral sources, and other community partners.

External:

  • Act as a resource for other agencies seeking referral information on current or potential guests.
  • Interact with other service providers as a team player when such interaction is for the benefit of clients.
  • Other duties as assigned to assist with shelter operations.
