What are the responsibilities and job description for the Children's Advocate position at Hope of East Central Illinois?
HOPE is dedicated to ending domestic violence by providing a wide range of services for victims and facilitating social change. We are currently seeking to fill a full-time Children's Advocate role within our Charleston office. This position will be responsible for providing advocacy, transportation, group services and supportive counseling for child clients.
Children’s Advocate
Job Description:
Exempt. Full-time position. Flexible hours to maintain children’s services. May include weekend hours. The Children’s Advocate is directly responsible to the Director of Outreach and Prevention.
Responsibilities:
1. Provide supportive counseling and advocacy directly to children of domestic violence clients and to their non-offending parents
2. Provide transportation as necessary
3. Document interaction with children
4. Assist with facilitation of children’s group
5. Provide child care when needed
6. Participate in on call rotation
7. Assist with inventorying children’s supplies toys, and needed supplies for playroom
8. Provide family counseling and parent services
9. Cover hotline and provide back-up services
10. Facilitate after school program and summer program for child clients
11. Assist with fundraisers
12. Office duties such as filing, answering phones, and greeting the public
10. Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred. Ability to work with children involved in domestic violence crisis situations. Excellent verbal and written skills. Willingness to work flexible hours. Experience working with children. Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and proof of auto insurance coverage required. 40 Hours of domestic violence training (provided by HOPE) and successful completion of a background check required. The Children’s Advocate must sign a confidentiality form indicating that the privacy of HOPE clients, staff, and volunteers will be maintained.
