Summary:
The Mental Health Clinician position provides evidence-based, trauma-informed mental health services to children who have disclosed severe abuse, engages non-offending caregivers in their child’s treatment, and promotes the family’s abilities to offer healing and safety.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides trauma-informed, evidence-based clinical interventions to promote the healing and safety of the child and promote the family’s ability to heal Utilizes standardized assessments to determine the frequency, the severity of abuse, and other traumatic events, to find symptoms the child may be experiencing related to trauma, and to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions provided Assesses client functioning and develops individualized treatment plan that is periodically re-assessed Learns Apricot case management software. Maintains case files, including completing session case notes, treatment plans, clinical impressions, communication notes, and termination summaries in an accurate, professional, and timely manner Manages a heavy workload of complex cases Provides sessions at co-locations, which may include schools, CPS offices… as needed Testifies in court as needed Participates in the multi-disciplinary team that serves children with cases of abuse Attends weekly clinical meetings with the Program Director Coordinates with the Program Director on all cases needing psychiatric/psychological consultation/suicide risk and subpoenas. Participates in regular peer reviews in which clinical proficiency may be reviewed
Maintains a comprehensive knowledge of the mission, core values, and vision of the organization and the children’s advocacy model
- Develops expertise in the highly specialized field of child abuse, with an emphasis on child sexual abuse, by regularly seeking to improve their skills through research and ongoing professional development as it relates to complex trauma and abuse Maintains good standing with the appropriate State licensing board and group membership affiliations Maintains cross-cultural awareness in the performance of all responsibilities Participates in Education/Outreach and Fundraising events hosted by HSTX provided to the communityAll other responsibilities and duties designated by the agency from time to time or added to the scope of responsibility for this position.
Job Requirements and Qualifications:
Education:
- Master’s degree in a behavioral science
- Clinical license to include LMSW, LCSW, LPC-A or LPC, LMFT
Experience:
- Experience in the field of child abuse, trauma, or related field preferred Knowledge of crisis intervention, assessment, counseling, theory, and ethics Experience with individual counseling and/or family interventions Experience with child abuse interventions, CPS, Law Enforcement, and District Attorneys preferred Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred
