Position Summary
The mission of Hope the Mission (HTM) is to prevent, reduce, and eliminate poverty, hunger, and homelessness by offering immediate assistance and long-term solutions.
The Janitor will be a safe and clean environment for participants accessing the Wellness Center. The Janitor will provide janitorial services, ensuring that all offices, restrooms, and community spaces are clean and disinfected.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
1. Ensure the cleanliness of the site to uphold proper health and safety standards
2. Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing all offices, meeting rooms, restrooms, and community spaces
3. Maintain the perimeter of the property clean and clear of all trash and debris
4. Ensure that trash is changed and taken out daily, and prepare trash receptacles for weekly pick-up
5. Assist with sanitation of participant belongings in the hot box upon intake if needed
6. Monitor the facility and report any maintenance concerns as needed
7. Restock supplies in the bathrooms as needed
8. Maintain inventory of supplies on hand
9. Report all supply needs to the Manager in a timely fashion and before exhausting the current supply
10. Ensure chemicals are locked up and stored per environmental safety standards at all times
11. Self-identify potentially unsafe systems/processes/situations and take the initiative to report to the supervisor
12. Ability to take on non-routine cleaning and special projects as needed
13. Implement crisis de-escalation interventions as appropriate
14. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Minimum Qualifications
Lived experience preferred
Minimum of one year of experience in customer service preferred
Must have strong written and verbal communication skills, including customer service focus in working with all internal organizational levels and external contacts
Experience working with people experiencing homelessness or other vulnerable populations preferred
Must be highly collaborative within a team environment
Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to coordinate multiple projects/tasks simultaneously within tight department metrics and deadlines. Possess the ability to manage conflicting priorities and projects
Exceptional organizational skills, detail-oriented in reviewing information and ensuring accuracy
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
Ability to work with diverse populations
Ability to proficiently operate a PC, MAC, fax, and telephone
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis
Ability to grasp, push, and pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and storage bins and reach overhead

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee may be in contact with individuals and families in crisis who may be ill, using alcohol and drugs, and who may not be attentive to basic personal hygiene, health and safety practices. The employee may experience a number of unpleasant sensory demands associated with the clients use of alcohol and drugs, and lack of personal hygiene. The employee must be ready to respond quickly and effectively to many types of situations, including crisis situations and potentially hostile situations. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate in an office setting. Sometimes work may become stressful when working under pressure.
