WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are seeking a dedicated Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) Teacher to provide individualized instruction and support to young children (ages 3-5) with developmental delays and disabilities in a school in the St. Louis region. The ECSE Teacher will work collaboratively with families, therapists, and other educators to create a nurturing learning environment that fosters communication, motor, cognitive, and social-emotional development.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Instruction & Intervention:
- Develop and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans aligned with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and state early learning standards.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, including play-based learning, visual supports, and assistive technology, to meet diverse student needs.
- Foster an inclusive classroom environment that encourages engagement and growth.
- Adapt teaching methods and materials to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
Assessment & Documentation:
- Conduct ongoing assessments to track student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Maintain accurate records, including progress reports, IEP documentation, and required assessments.
- Participate in IEP meetings to collaborate with families and the special education team on student goals and services.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, behavior therapists, and paraprofessionals to support student development.
- Communicate regularly with parents and caregivers to provide updates and strategies for home reinforcement.
Compliance & Professional Development:
- Ensure compliance with IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) and state/federal special education regulations.
- Stay up to date on best practices in early childhood education and special education through professional development opportunities.
- Maintain a safe, positive, and structured learning environment.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Early Childhood Special Education.
- Current Missouri teaching certification with an Early Childhood Special Education endorsement.
- Experience working with young children with disabilities in a school or early intervention setting preferred.
- Knowledge of IEP development, early childhood curriculum, and behavior management strategies.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Ability to work in a classroom/preschool environment.
- Frequent movement, bending, and interaction with young children.
- May require lifting or assisting with mobility equipment.
