LAB TECH JOB DESCRIPTION
DEPARTMENT: Clinical
JOB TITLE: Lab Tech
SUPERVISOR: Medical Director /Lab Director
POSITION SUMMARY: The Lab Technician is responsible for specimen processing, test performance, and reporting results in compliance with laboratory standards. This position requires adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs), quality control policies, and professional licensing requirements to ensure accurate and timely patient testing.
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must hold an accredited doctoral, master’s, bachelor’s, or associate degree in a relevant scientific field—or at least 60 semester hours from an accredited institution with specified coursework in chemistry, biology, and/or medical laboratory technology. A valid Virginia license. Additionally, candidates must have completed an approved clinical laboratory training program (ABHES, CAHEA, or HHS) or possess at least three months of documented training in each high-complexity testing specialty.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Perform specimen collection, handling, and test analysis as authorized by the Laboratory Director.
2. Maintain and document quality control procedures, instrument calibrations, and preventative maintenance.
3. Identify and resolve issues that may impact test performance or the accuracy of test results.
4. Ensure proficiency testing samples are handled in the same manner as patient specimens.
5. Follow established procedures when test systems deviate from acceptable performance.
6. Document and report any corrective actions taken for pre-analytic, analytic, or post-analytic deviations.
7. Comply with all laboratory safety protocols, regulatory standards, and confidentiality requirements.
8. Complete additional technical tasks as assigned based on shift and laboratory needs, ensuring thorough record-keeping.
9. Other duties as assigned by supervisor, management or CEO.

8. Must be able to accept direction and adhere to all relevant policies and procedures.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Primarily works inside. Requires good written and verbal communication skills, organization skills, and attention to detail.
