What are the responsibilities and job description for the PERMANENT BUILDING BASED SUBSTITUTE position at Horace Mann Middle School?
FPS is seeking Permanent Substitutes. The roles of the Building-Based Substitute Teacher are to maintain classroom structures and to carry on the classroom procedures as if they were the regular teacher. Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all students. The Building-Based Substitute Teacher will maintain the same responsibilities and the same duties as the regular teacher, including bus duty and playground supervision, etc. In the absence of the teacher, provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth while following any lesson plans and/or instructions left by the classroom teacher. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Responsibilities:
Assigned to rotate into various teaching positions in the school on a daily basis and possibly throughout the day; working as part of the school community
Implement teacher lesson plans and administrator directives with fidelity and efficiency.
Communicate with classroom teachers and if necessary, principal regarding expectations for student work, behavior, and lesson execution.
Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all students.
Ensure the teacher’s absence does not cause an interruption in classroom instruction.
Gain familiarity with district curriculum and resources.
Attend and contribute to staff meetings and professional development activities.
Perform supervisory duties as assigned (such as lunch, bus, or recess duty).
Assist in the development of curricular materials as assigned.
Abide by state statutes, school committee policies and regulations
Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by the principal or their designee.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
Report all suspicions of abuse and/or neglect to DCF and the principal.
Maintain confidentiality regarding students and staff personnel information
Be a positive role model for students; support the mission of the Department.
Ability to be flexible with job assignments as needed.
Remain current on instructional practices in education (e.g., instructional technology)
Assumes responsibility for other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned.
