POSITION SUMMARY:

Perform tasks involving physical labor at the shop, on residential and commercial projects all in a safe manner consistent with “best practices” found in the construction trades; covers roof structures with construction materials at heights; diagnoses and fixes leaks on damaged roofs; operates hand and power tools of all types, and a variety of other equipment designed for the roofing industry; cleans and prepare sites and assist crews as instructed. Mechanics are expected to be highly proficient in all requirements of a technician and may perform the duties of a Foreman on a part time/as needed basis to include but not limited to: coaching, training and jobsite management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follows direction from office staff, job managers and foreman.
  • Assists in loading and unloading trucks in the morning and evening, which includes: material and equipment.
  • Lugs bundles and other materials.
  • Erects and dismantles temporary safety barricades, staging, fences and other safety equipment.
  • Stages roofs.
  • Strips roofs.
  • Installs shingles, slate, metal, or other materials to make the roof watertight.
  • Cleans up debris and loads into dumpsters.
  • Cleans job site: raking, sweeping, using a magnet on customers property.
  • Cleans trailers: organizing and keeping trailers neat, putting away tools.
  • Cleans trucks inside and out.
  • Keep’s shop neat, put tools away in the shop.
  • Maintains and repairs equipment: including compressors, hoses, guns, brackets as needed.
  • Follows all safety rules and regulations, including using personal protective equipment as required by law and company policy; follows all procedures in Employee Handbook and in appropriate performance review class.
  • Attends training (including OSHA training) as required.
  • Promotes the company in the community and generates sales leads.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • May perform the duties of a Foreman as needed.
  • May operate a forklift under a Horch Roofing license if needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Always call with schedule changes so that we can accommodate our Customers needs efficiently and effectively.
  • Communication! Communication encompasses verbal and written documentations. All of our jobs always have a Customer needing assistance. If you do not communicate clearly, verbally and in writing, not only the Customers but the company will suffer.
  • Work as a member of the team in the performance of duties.
  • Be punctual for scheduled work and use time appropriately.
  • Perform duties in a conscientious, cooperative manner.
  • Perform the required amount of work in a timely fashion with a minimum of errors.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; drive or ride in a vehicle; use arms, hands and fingers to lift and carry materials, use tools, etc.; climb, bend and balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk, see and hear. Heavy lifting/pushing of 85 pounds or more is regularly required.

Good physical condition is required to perform heavy physical labor. Any person hired into this position, due to inherent and other physical dangers of this job, may be required (and upon future request) to obtain a statement from a physician certifying that s/he is in good health and has the physical ability to handle this position.

Physical abilities needed in order to perform this position include the following:

  • Trunk Strength-The ability to use your abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without ‘giving out’ or excessive fatiguing.
  • Explosive Strength-The ability to use short bursts of muscle force to propel oneself (as jumping or sprinting), or to throw an object
  • Multi-limb Coordination-The ability to coordinate two or more limbs (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting, standing, or lying down. It does not involve performing the activities while the whole body is in motion
  • Gross Body Equilibrium-The ability to keep or regain your body balance or stay upright when in an unstable position.
  • Static Strength-The ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects weighing up to 85 lbs.
  • Extent Flexibility-The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.
  • Stamina-The ability to exert yourself physically over long periods of time without getting winded or out of breath.
  • Manual Dexterity-The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.

The majority of the work is outdoors and can be in a wide variety of weather conditions - hot/humid, cold, windy, rainy, snowy, etc. Must not be afraid of heights.

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED FOR POSITION:

Education: The following education requirements are considered essential but not mandatory:

  • Knowledge of the following:
  • Building and Construction-General knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses, building, and the roofing industry.
  • Mechanical-Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Engineering and Technology-Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services typically encountered in the roofing trade.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
