What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant position at Horizon Behavioral Health?
The position is responsible for performing routine vital signs, working up new patients including vital signs, obtaining and charting pertinent information, ordering labs, collecting and packaging lab specimens, reconciling medications, and giving patients medication injections. The candidate will also be responsible for obtaining prior authorization for medications and working on provider messages from patients. The Medical Assistant must move at an extremely quick pace and anticipate the needs of the providers and patients beforehand.
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Greet patients; ensure patient demographics are up to date.
- Record patient allergies, meds, vitals, and other data pertinent to treatment.
- Perform lab specimen collection such as Urine Drug screening and Urine Pregnancy testing on patients
- Create lab orders in patient charts under the direction of the physicians.
- Assist the medical staff in patient education
- Ensure all clinical supplies (medications, UDS supplies, treatment supplies, treatment sessions) are adequately stocked. Report low supplies to the office manager for ordering.
- Fulfills clerical responsibilities efficiently as assigned which may include: scanning reports into
patient medical records; obtaining lab reports and hospital notes; calling in prescriptions etc.
- Obtain prior authorizations for medications when requested.
- Provide backup coverage for special treatment technicians (additional training will be provided)
- Provide backup support to front office staff including answering phones, checking in and checking out of patients, obtaining prior authorizations, handling medical records requests, new patient referral scheduling, intake of new patients, and obtaining vitals as requested.
- Ensure HIPAA compliance is adhered to at all times.
This is an extremely fast-moving office. Candidate must be used to working in fast-paced environment and multi-tasking.
Requirements:- Minimum of 3 years back office experience in a medical office to include administration of injections/meds, obtaining vital signs, medication prior authorizations, and charting.
- Must be a certified/registered MA, (LPN or EMT licensed in the state of Georgia may also apply).
- Must be able to multi-task complex tasks and have extreme attention to details
- Certified in BLS & AED use.
- Knowledge of REMS programs would be beneficial

- Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office products

- Excellent customer service skills
