AMERICORPS POSITION DESCRIPTION
Minimum Time Member
General Statement of Duties:
Horizon Education Centers will engage 17 AmeriCorps members to provide Childhood
Obesity Prevention programming in the cities of Berea, Cleveland, Elyria, Lakewood, Lorain and North
Olmsted, Ohio.
Direct Supervisor: Christopher Skinner-Community Engagement Coordinator
Program Director: Julie Piazza-King
Service Term Dates:
Summer Cohort #1-5/12/25- 8/8/25; 13 weeks; 23 hours per week
Summer Cohort #2-6/9/25- 8/22-25; 11 weeks; 27-28 hours per week
Required Minimum Service Hours: 300 Hours
General Service Schedule: M-F, 8:00-1;00 or 1:00-6:00; some flexibility
Program-specific duties include:
- Creating and implementing nutrition and fitness activities for preschool and school age children (K-5).
- Connecting families to community resources that address health and nutrition needs.
- Providing health and nutrition information to families.
- Planning and Participating in Community Service Projects.
- Distributing produce to families through the mobile food pantries.
Minimum Qualifications/Skill Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED- Required
- U.S. citizen, natural, or lawful permanent resident age 18 or older- Required
- Some college, in education, social work, sociology, family and community studies- Preferred
Member/Program benefits:
