Position Summary:
The Oncology/Infusion Clinic RN is responsible for the provision of patient care for Outpatient Infusion Patients. The Registered Nurse working in the Oncology/Infusion Clinic specializes in the assessment, access, and maintenance of venous access devices. The Registered Nurse in this position demonstrates expertise in phlebotomy procedures including starting peripheral IV’s, drawing blood from midline catheters, peripherally inserted central catheters and ports. He/She performs all required elements of a nursing assessment including but not limited to physical examination, assessment of readiness to learn, psychosocial/and sexual assessment, functional assessment and utilization of patient/family specific assessment scales as required. The Registered Nurse is an active member of the multidisciplinary team and collaborates in the development, execution, and evaluation of the multidisciplinary plan of care or critical pathway. The Registered Nurse considers factors related to safety, effectiveness and cost in planning and delivering care. The Registered Nurse ensures decisions and actions on behalf of patients are determined in an ethical manner. The Registered Nurse establishes goals and strategies for meeting the discharge or continuing care needs of the patient, family, and/or other care provider. The Registered Nurse provides care in collaboration with other nursing staff members, as well as the patient and family, delegates and supervises care in accordance with nurse practice acts and the professional nursing role. Effectively communicates with physicians continuously and as needed about patient condition. Effectively assists with the administration of infusion services in a professional manner. Effectively assists with the maintenance of infusion equipment and inventory. Effectively participates in performance improvement activities. Assesses infusion suites for equipment functioning and readiness, obtains supplies for individual cases and ensures all appropriate needs of Infusion Services. Documents, monitors, positions and assists patients during infusion services.
Essential Functions:
- Early assessment of patients for most appropriate venous access device for their care.
- Insertion of peripheral venous access. Utilizes techniques to optimize outcomes related to infection prevention and patient satisfaction. Promote proper technique and evidence-based practices to other health care providers.
- Selects appropriate site for venipuncture (arm, hand, leg, ankle or foot), assembles equipment and collect specimens(s) using correct order of draw and according to policy and procedure.
- Selects appropriate site for venipuncture, assembles correct equipment, and performs Therapeutic Phlebotomies according to policy and procedure.
- Performs blood collection from external venous access devices after training and competency has been completed. Examples of external venous access devices include PICC and Groshong.
- Collects blood from vascular implanted ports using aseptic technique, non-coring needle and proper flushing protocol.
- Maintains knowledge needed to correctly collect from the variety of catheters.
- Uses proper cleansing and aseptic technique to collect blood cultures directly into blood culture bottles.
- Integrates nursing interventions into the multidisciplinary plan of care, incorporating appropriate standards of care and practice and patient outcomes.
- Implements safe, competent, and efficient patient care within policies, procedures and standards, and interventions as noted on the multidisciplinary plan of care.
- Sets priorities adapting to changing patient and unit/clinic situations. In response to data indicating urgent and/or emergent risks to patients, initiates action to reduce or correct risk.
- Assumes responsibility and accountability for effectively managing nursing care with individual patients and families as team members.
- Documents on the nursing process to reflect a comprehensive and integrated approach to patient care.
- Evaluates patients’ responses to care based on effectiveness of nursing interventions/actions in relationship to established outcomes and consults with Medical Staff regarding clinical variances and recommended changes to the plan of care.
- Identifies learning needs with patients/families and teaches by adapting standard information to provide individualized and comprehensive teaching learning.
- Must adhere to the hospital wide dress code policy.

Position Requirements:
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing
- Current Illinois license as RN
- Current ACLS, PALS, BLS Required.
- Current ONS-Chemotherapy Provider Card for FT staff or obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Knowledge of nursing process and use of the same
- Good nursing practice skills
- Ability to perform complex and varied tasks in a fast-paced work environment subject to stress and interruption.
- All job requirements/responsibilities are subject change upon assignment from manager.
Pay Range:
Pay ranges from $26.688/hour to $42.740/hour (rate of pay is based on applicable years of experience)

Hours: Monday- Friday with rotating weekends 32hrs per week
