What are the responsibilities and job description for the Analyst - Quantitative Investments position at Horizon Investments?
The Analyst position will primarily support the Quantitative Research & ETF team with systematic implementation related to both new and current investment processes. Systematic implementation will include executing existing strategy methodologies, creating pre-trade analytics for Quantitative Portfolio Managers, tracking and managing workflow of processes, standardizing execution instructions and documentation, and auditing these processes for accuracy and improvement. Advancements in the role include conducting quantitative research projects related to methodology updates or enhancements for current processes, automating tasks, as well as new process design and research.
The analyst will also regularly conduct pre and post trade analytics, trading commentary, strategy communication, performance analysis and attribution, and prepare meeting materials for the team. The emphasis on each of these job duties may vary depending on the exact skillset, growth, and interest of the Analyst. The role is technical in nature and requires a strong technical background in mathematics, statistics, and programming.
The Analyst will have primary responsibility over a subset of our strategies and product areas. Advancements will require original research contributions along these verticals.

- Execute systematic processes and trades as well as document and improve the organization of these activities
- Automation of implementation tasks where possible
- Provide general support analytics for the team
- Conduct strategy & ETF research to recommend improvements or run data analytics at the direction Quantitative Portfolio Managers and ETF/Research staff
- Run pre and post trade risk reports and attribution using a variety of technical investment management tools and create presentations and reports to effectively communicate the results to Senior Management
- Write trade commentary, performance commentary, and process documentation for the covered strategies
- Participate in investment team meetings and adhere to and demonstrate on a consistent basis, Horizon's corporate values
Competencies
- Outstanding analytical skills with strong Microsoft Excel skills as a minimum requirement
- Programming experience, or at a minimum the desire and affinity to learn programming skills. Python and Matlab are the preferred programming software tools used by the team
- A strong technical background related to Finance, Hard Sciences (Physics, chemistry, engineering etc.), Mathematics, Statistics, and / or Computer Science. A business background is not required
- Experience with using, or at a minimum a strong desire and affinity to learn, a variety of technical investment management tools such as Bloomberg, Factset, Morningstar etc.
- Well organized, detail oriented, and the ability to prioritize a variety of competing time sensitive tasks
- A passion for markets and investing
Required Education and Experience
- This is an entry level position on the Investment management team; professional work experience is not required but is preferred
- Bachelor's Degree in math, finance or economics, computer science, or another technical field
