Job Title: Plant Supervisor
Reports To: Plant Manager
Department: Lost Hills Huller
Summary: This position is responsible for day-to-day supervision, the safety and productivity of all production/ huller employees. The Plant Supervisor is accountable for ensuring that production/ hulling is scheduled for completion, executed in a timely manner and within all quality parameters. He/she must also ensure efficient production / hulling and compliance with all company quality, food safety, safety, and Good Manufacturing Practices policies and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitor all hulling and drying operations and processes for maximized plant safety, sanitation, product quality, and food safety.
- Responsible for production quality and storage of harvest production.
- Maintain a clean and safe workplace. Emphasis on good housekeeping while maximizing efforts to keep area of responsibility audit ready.
- Analyze and resolve work problems, and/or assist employees in solving work problems.
- Ensure the safety and productivity of all employees.
- Report all near misses and or incidents (spills, safety violations, food safety concerns).
- Ensure all safety and processing procedures are in place and are being followed.
- Enable effective communications between management, operators/leads, and supporting departments.
- Assist in coaching/ training and onboarding new employees hires within shift and area of responsibility.
- Provides continuous coaching for existing employees.
- Lead the team to provide the highest possible efficiency, productivity, and quality of one's jobs duties.
- Maintain on-going communication with other Horizon managers and supervisors to coordinate activities of facility departments for effective team building.
- Utilize interpersonal skills to solve conflict and attain resolution; Maintains confidentiality on sensitive matters, listens to others for constructive discussions; Remains open to others' ideas.
- Initiate and /or suggest plans to motivate employees to achieve work goals. Assist as directed to maintain time records.
- Assist as directed to maintain production and inventory records.
- Uphold company policies in a consistent manner. Consult with manager and/or HR for clarification on an as needed basis. Assist with root causes.
- Conduct competency assessments with operators/ leads.
- Engage in cross-training for an improved understanding of facility and business. Assist in the training of other team members.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Interviews, hires, and trains new employees.
- Oversee the daily workflow of the department.
- Provides constructive and timely performance feedback.
- Reviews and approved timecards properly.
- Partners with Safety to promote a positive safety culture
- Partners with Food Safety and quality to promote a quality first mindset.
- Partners with Human Resources to train, develop, and discipline employees in accordance with company policy.
Education/Experience:
- Minimum High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two to three years related experience and/or training in the food or agriculture industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Degree in Food Related Studies preferred.
Reasoning Ability: Employee has the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Skill and Ability Requirements:
Ability to work nights, weekends, and overtime, especially during our harvest months.
Written Communication - Writes clearly and informatively; Edits work for spelling and grammar; Presents numerical data effectively; Able to read and interpret written information.
Language Ability - Ability to read and comprehend instructions, written or electronic correspondence and spreadsheets, and memos. Ability to construct and disseminate correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to co-workers and/or management.
Math Ability - Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply logical understanding to carry out detailed written or verbal instructions. Ability to deal with problems and offer viable and appropriate solutions.
Computer Skills - To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge. of Spreadsheets and data entry, Inventory software; Internet software; Order processing systems.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position may supervise from 10 to 50 employees.
