SEL and Engagement Specialist
Job Description/ Position Summary
The SEL and Engagement Coordinator will provide counseling support for our students and maintain strong relationships between the program staff and student families. This staff member will work with the leadership and teaching team to develop and implement programming that supports the social-emotional wellbeing of all our students during the six-week summer session and out of school time activities throughout the year.
The Summer 2025 Program dates are 6/23/25-8/1/25 and the hours are 8:00am-3:00pm. This position is full time during our six-week summer program. During the school year, the SEL Coordinator leads nine after school sessions for kindergarten and 1st Grade students.
Job Responsibilities
· Provide student support through behavioral intervention and motivational strategies
· Develop and execute a SEL curriculum and classes that are age appropriate for students in PreK through 8th grade during our summer program
· In coordination with leadership staff, plan and execute our End of Summer Showcase and Stepping Up Ceremony
· Plan and implement nine SEL After School Sessions (3 classes in Fall, Winter, and Spring) for our youngest students.
· Help to facilitate teacher and parent/guardian relationships
· Aid in the development and implementation of crisis management protocols
· Maintain permanent records of student conduct and family outreach activities
· Provide Cultural Competency and/or SEL training to staff at orientation.
· Attend all mandatory staff trainings and meetings
Qualifications
Reporting to the Executive Director, the ideal candidate is warm, attentive, collaborative and possesses an understanding of how culture, race and socioeconomics impacts the learning experiences of our students. Other qualifications include:
· MSW or counseling related master’s degree preferred
· Passion for education equity and the Horizons NCC mission
· Experience working with underserved students and families
· Training in and experience using effective behavioral health strategies
· Strong relational skills and collaboration with Horizons summer staff
· Spanish speaking preferred, but not required
