Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Instructor to join our team. This role is essential in providing meaningful and individualized learning experiences for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of adult learning principles, life skills development, and behavior support strategies, ensuring that each individual receives the guidance and encouragement needed to enhance their independence and personal growth.
Duties
- Utilize effective support strategies to create a positive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment.
- Develop and implement individualized lesson plans that incorporate diverse teaching methods and materials to accommodate various learning styles and abilities.
- Provide direct instruction and hands-on support to enhance life skills, communication, and personal growth.
- Monitor and assess progress regularly, adapting approaches as needed to promote continued development and independence.
- Implement positive behavior support techniques to help manage challenges and strengthen social and emotional skills.
- Guide and mentor individuals in both personal and skill development, fostering confidence, self-advocacy, and greater autonomy in daily life.
- Ability to implement and track Individualized Support Plan (ISP) goals to ensure meaningful progress and goal achievement.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field; certification in Special Education is preferred.
- Experience working with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including autism, is highly desirable.
- Strong skills in lesson planning, individualized instruction, and behavior support to foster skill development and independence.
- Knowledge of person-centered planning, positive behavior support strategies, and life skills training to promote meaningful growth.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively engage with individuals, families, and team members.
- A compassionate and patient approach to supporting adults with disabilities, demonstrating respect and understanding.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while also being proactive and self-motivated.
