We are in search of a Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant who is passionate to help children reach their full potential.

Horizons Speech & Language Therapy is a private practice owned by Speech and Language Pathologist. Our mission is to work collaboratively with teachers, parents and caregivers to reach children's full potential. Therapy services are provided at our office, online, and/or the child’s natural environment (home, school, daycare).

We are currently searching for a SLP-A to provide therapy services in our office and surrounding schools and/or daycares.

The SLP-A hired must be willing to adhere to the new rules and regulations of the Florida Board of Speech-Pathology and Audiology, which allows the SLP-A to provide services in a different location from the licensed SLP after competency has been established and determined. The new rules and regulations include the completion of an On the Job Training and direct supervision by a licensed SLP before signing a Written Protocol: Speech-Language Pathology Assistant Collaborative Practice Agreement. This agreement allows the SLP-A to work in a different location from the licensed SLP.

At a minimum, On-The-Job Training shall include step by step instruction and Demonstration of each and every service the Assistant is to perform and continuous visual observation by the SLP Supervising Licensee of the SLP Assistant’s performance of such service until the SLP Supervising Licensee establishes the Assistant’s competency. The SLP supervising Licensee shall maintain a record of each service indicating the activity, date, time, and location of the foregoing demonstration and observations concerning competency. The record shall be signed by both the SLP Supervising Licensee and the SLP Assistant, and a copy thereof shall be provided to the SLP Assistant and shall be maintained by the SLP Supervising Licensee for the duration of employment and shall be maintained by the SLP Assistant as long as the SLP Assistant is certified by the Board. A new SLP supervising licensee shall obtain and maintain for the duration of employment records demonstrating competency for all services performed by the SLP Assistant. Upon request of the Department or Board, the SLP Supervising Licensee and the SLP Assistant shall produce the documentation of competency records required herein.

Responsibilities

  • Assist licensed Speech Language Pathologists in implementing speech therapy programs for children and students.
  • Record case history information.
  • Screen speech, language or hearing using procedures that are included in published material containing directions for administration and scoring.
  • Implement treatment programs that are planned and designed by the SLP Supervising Licensee to meet pre-established goals; and, contain pre-established criteria for mastery.
  • Record, chart, graph or otherwise display data relative to client performance.
  • Perform clerical functions necessary to maintain clinical records.
  • Report changes in client performance to the SLP Supervising Licensee having responsibility for that client.
  • Prepare clinical materials.
  • Assist the SLP Supervising Licensee during assessment of students, patients, and clients (e.g., setting up the testing environment, gathering and prepping materials, taking notes as advised by the SLP Supervising Licensee, etc.). Assist in the evaluation or treatment of difficult-to-test clients.
  • Exhibiting compliance with federal, state, and local regulations including: The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA); reimbursement requirements; and state statutes and rules regarding SLP Assistant education, training, and scope of practice.
  • Providing direct therapy services addressing treatment goals developed by the SLP Supervising Licensee to meet the needs of the student, patient, client, and family.
  • Developing and implementing activities and materials for teaching and practice of skills to address the goals of the student, patient, client, and family per the plan of care developed by the SLP Supervising Licensee.
  • Providing treatment through a variety of service delivery models (e.g., individual, group, classroom-based, home-based, co-treatment with other disciplines) as directed by the SLP Supervising Licensee.
  • Providing services via telepractice to students, patients, and clients who are selected by the SLP Supervising Licensee.
  • Documenting student, patient, or client performance (e.g., collecting data and calculating percentages for the SLP Supervising Licensee to use; preparing charts, records, and graphs) and report this information to the SLP Supervising Licensee in a timely manner.
  • Providing caregiver coaching (e.g., model and teach communication strategies, provide feedback regarding caregiver-child interactions) for facilitation and carryover of skills.
  • Sharing objective information (e.g., accuracy in speech and language skills addressed, participation in treatment, response to treatment) regarding student, patient, and client performance to students, patients, clients, caregivers, families and other service providers without interpretation or recommendations as directed by the SLP Supervising Licensee.
  • Programming augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices.
  • Providing training and technical assistance to students, patients, clients, and families in the use of AAC devices.
  • Developing low-tech AAC materials for students, patients, and clients.

This position is paid with a W-2 hourly rate and offers therapy material stipends, CEU reimbursement, and mentorship. Other benefits may be discussed and considered.

Position is Part-Time with the potential of growing into a Full-Time.

Other Benefits may include: Paid training, CEU reimbursement, Material stipends, License Renewal reimbursement, Mileage reimbursement.

Initial Hourly Compensation Rate will be $25 during training. After training and competence has been established the hourly compensation rate will increase. Rate increase will be determined based on years of experience, among other factors.
