Position Overview
The Senior Business Analyst is a critical role within Hornets Sports & Entertainment (HSE) business operations by leveraging data to drive informed decision-making across various departments. You will focus on analyzing data related to revenue generation, fan engagement, marketing, sponsorships, ticket sales and other business functions. The Senior Business Analyst will work cross-functionally to deliver actionable insights, optimize business strategies and improve operational efficiency. To be successful you will have strong business acumen, advanced analytical skills and experience in managing projects and reporting findings to senior leadership.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Business Performance Analysis
- Conduct detailed analysis of business performance metrics, including ticket sales, merchandise revenue, sponsorship deals and fan engagement.
- Identify trends and insights that inform decision-making and support long-term business strategy.
Revenue Optimization
- Work with various departments to identify opportunities to optimize revenue streams and improve business operations.
- Analyze customer behavior, sales data and market trends to develop actionable recommendations.
Market and Competitive Analysis
- Perform market research and competitor analysis to evaluate the organization’s position within the industry.
- Monitor industry trends and emerging business models to ensure the organization remains competitive and innovative.
Strategic Insights and Reporting
- Provide clear, actionable insights through comprehensive reports and presentations to senior leadership.
- Translate data into strategic recommendations that support key business objectives, including growth in ticket sales, fan engagement, and overall brand presence.
Project Management
- Lead and manage multiple business analytics projects simultaneously, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure timely execution and alignment with organizational goals.
- Maintain project timelines, deliverables, and ensure accuracy of all data-driven reports.
Communication
- Present findings and strategic recommendations to senior management, marketing teams, and other key stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
- Ensure that business leaders have the insights they need to make data-driven decisions.
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with departments such as marketing, finance, operations, and sales to provide data-driven insights that influence business decisions.
- Support teams in identifying business problems and opportunities where analytics can make an impact.
Leadership & Mentorship
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior analysts, helping to develop their skills in business analytics, data interpretation, and strategic thinking.
- Assist with the development of best practices for conducting business-related analyses and creating impactful reports.
Required Skills, Experience, and Abilities
To perform the job successfully, you should demonstrate the following competencies associated with the essential functions of this job.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Business, Economics, Statistics, Data Science or a related discipline. Advanced degree (MBA, MS) preferred.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in business analytics, data analysis, or strategy within a sports organization, entertainment, or related field.
- Proven ability to analyze business data, generate insights and communicate findings to senior leadership in a clear, actionable manner and to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong knowledge of business operations and sports industry economics, including revenue streams, fan engagement, marketing and sponsorships.
- Proven expertise in applying data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, SQL, R, Python) and business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) in everyday business situations.
- Experience managing and prioritizing multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently while thriving in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to synthesize complex data into practical business recommendations.
- Professional demeanor with the ability to engage with all levels of the organization and external stakeholders.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
