What are the responsibilities and job description for the Board Member position at Horse SenseAbility at Wildstar Farm?
Horse SenseAbility, located in Sherborn MA, is a nonprofit dedicated to helping children and young adults who are underserved, at risk or have special needs develop life skills by learning about, caring for and being with horses in a peaceful, rural setting. We particularly focus on working with young people who are or have been in the foster care system; have experienced trauma from emotional, physical or sexual abuse; struggle with mental illness; have autism spectrum disorder; are living in low-income, often stressful, situations; or have physical or cognitive disabilities.
Horse SenseAbility offers 7 core services :
- Therapeutic Riding & Horsemanship
- Occupational Therapy on Horseback (aka hippotherapy)
- City to Saddle (free summer camp for children from low-income families)
- Horse Tales (reading & riding summer camp for elementary school children)
- Wildstar Wranglers (job skill development for young adults with autism)
- Hugo's Pony Club for Preschoolers
- Community visits by our Executive Director and therapy pony
We are looking for up to 2 people to join our Board of Directors who have substantive experience managing a nonprofit and / or fundraising. Experience with children's programs and / or horses a plus.
We currently have 7 Board Members, several of whom have been on the Board since the organization's founding in 2017.
Expectations :
Note that while Board Members are expected to participate in fundraising efforts, we do not have a "give or get" policy because we want to attract Board Members from diverse economic circumstances.
Candidates will be asked to fill out an application and submit a resume. Those of interest to the organization will meet virtually for an interview with several members of the Board.
