Job Overview
Our mid-size boutique law firm is seeking a dynamic and experienced Executive Director. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in operations management, business development, and senior leadership. This role requires an individual who can effectively negotiate, manage teams, and drive process improvements while fostering a culture of excellence.
The Executive Director is responsible for the non-legal business affairs of the firm including general administration, policies, and procedures in areas of human resources, finance, business development, technology, and physical facilities.
The position reports to the firm’s management committee and partners. As a member of the firm’s executive team, the position is expected to contribute significantly to the firm’s strategic and tactical planning, business development, risk management, quality control, organizational development, and oversight of the firm’s internal systems and procedures, practice management, including lawyer recruiting, training, development, legal assistant supervision, work product quality control, technology, professional standards, substantive practice systems and other practice management functions to ensure attorneys’ needs are met.

Areas of Responsibility
Human Resource Management
Recruiting of legal and administrative support staff, training and development, performance reviews, counseling, disciplining, discharging, salary administration, employee relations, benefits administration, workers’ compensation, personnel data systems, job descriptions, staff resource allocation and responsibilities for each position. The position monitors the professional employer organization’s performance, services, compliance, and benefits administration including periodic review of all employee benefit providers.
Financial Management
Accounting, billing, and banking procedures, profitability analysis, monitoring of revenue and expenses, accounts receivable, cash flow, collections; oversight of accountants and banking relationships and services, trust accounting, and payroll.
Business Development
Serves on the firm’s business development committee, which is responsible for identifying and pursuing business opportunities, client development, promoting legal services, website development, networking to enhance the firm’s visibility and image in selected markets, business development budgets, and works closely with the firm’s business development coordinator.
IT Systems
Systems and information services including hardware and software, IT and data security policies, telecommunication overview and analysis, meets regularly with IT team to make sure user needs and support are met, develops and maintains records management and retention policies for electronic and hard copies of data, reviews IT staffing needs and systems for litigation support, library management and online research providers.
Facilities Management
Oversees firm’s physical facilities, space planning and design, purchasing of furniture and equipment, inventory control, office security systems, office services including reception, delivery services, mail, and other facilities management functions.
