Job Summary:
The Inspection Supervisor is responsible for leading and overseeing all receiving and final inspection activities within the Fabrication and Instrumentation Departments. This role ensures that products meet customer requirements, engineering specifications, and ISO 9001 quality standards before shipment. The Inspection Supervisor will provide leadership, training, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the effectiveness and accuracy of inspections, and reduce escapes to our customers.
This role plays a critical part in maintaining customer satisfaction by ensuring that welded hose assemblies, assembly components, and bulk hose reels are thoroughly inspected, compliant, and properly documented.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Supervision:
Lead, train, and develop Receiving and Final Inspectors in both the Fabrication and Instrumentation Departments.
Ensure inspectors follow company policies, safety procedures, and quality standards.
Provide performance feedback, conduct performance evaluations, and support professional growth of inspectors.
Promote a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement in inspection activities.
Inspection Oversight & Compliance:
Ensure all receiving and final inspections are performed accurately and in accordance with engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T requirements, and customer specifications.
Ensure that all control of nonconforming product procedures are followed.
Ensure that product traceability is maintained and that inspection records are properly completed.
Ensure all router operations are completed and signed off and before jobs proceed.
Work with quality engineers and operations teams to resolve nonconforming product issues.
Manage and document initial and ongoing inspector training.
Process Improvement & Problem Solving:
Identify opportunities for inspection process improvements and lead improvement actions as needed.
Standardize inspection processes across Fabrication and Instrumentation Departments to ensure consistency.
Work closely with operations, manufacturing engineering, and quality teams to address recurring quality issues and eliminate customer escapes.
Support internal and customer corrective action and root cause analysis activities.
Perform internal audits as required.
Collaboration & Reporting:
Work closely with the Calibration Technician to ensure that gage calibration is managed properly and that no past-due gages are used in the shop.
Coordinate with Quality Engineers and Operations Supervisors to ensure efficient workflow and timely inspection completion.
Provide reports and metrics on inspection performance, defect trends, and areas for improvement to the Quality Assurance Manager.
Participate in customer audits and ISO 9001 audits as needed.
Coordinate with Night and Weekend Shift Operations Supervisors to ensure that there is seamless transition between day shift inspection and inspection on these off-shifts.
Qualifications & Experience:
5 years of experience in quality inspection or quality assurance within a manufacturing environment.
2 years of supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
Strong knowledge of precision dimensional inspection methods, GD&T, and blueprint reading.
Experience in an ISO 9001-certified environment, including document control and audit participation.
Familiarity with calipers, micrometers, height gauges, CMM, and other precision measuring tools.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze inspection data and identify trends.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and ERP systems (Syteline experience preferred).
Excellent communication, leadership, and team-building skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment, balancing accuracy and efficiency.
