Hoskinson Health & Wellness Clinic is seeking Hyperbaric Technician’s to join our specialized team, which will house both multiplace & monoplace hyperbaric chambers. The technician will be responsible for the safe operation, monitoring, and maintenance of these chambers while ensuring that all patients undergoing Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) receive the highest standard of care. In this role, the technician will work closely with medical professionals, providing treatment for various conditions such as wound healing, decompression sickness, carbon monoxide poisoning, and more . The technician will have the opportunity to assist research staff with clinical trials using Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy.
Key Responsibilities:
Chamber Operation & Monitoring:
Safe Operation of Chambers:
Manage both multiplace and monoplace hyperbaric chambers, adjusting pressure and oxygen levels based on the specific treatment protocol.
Initiate, maintain, and end HBOT sessions following established medical guidelines.
Operate compressors, oxygen supply systems, and control consoles during therapy sessions, ensuring all settings meet the prescribed treatment plan.
Patient Monitoring & Communication:
Monitor patients’ vital signs, comfort levels, and safety throughout the entire treatment process via direct supervision (in multiplace chambers) or through external monitoring systems (in monoplace chambers).
Maintain communication with patients throughout treatment using intercom systems or directly, providing reassurance and answering any questions.
Observe patients for signs of distress, claustrophobia, or adverse reactions such as barotrauma and oxygen toxicity.
Emergency Response:
Be fully prepared to manage medical or technical emergencies inside the chamber, including basic life support (BLS)
Respond swiftly to alarms, pressure deviations, or any changes in patient conditions.
Patient Care & Support:
Pre-Treatment Preparation:
Educate patients on the purpose and process of HBOT, addressing any concerns or questions before treatment begins.
Review patient records and medical histories to ensure proper suitability for hyperbaric therapy.
Conduct thorough pre-treatment assessments, including checking for contraindications such as untreated pneumothorax or recent ear surgeries.
Patient Assistance:
Assist patients with entering and exiting the hyperbaric chambers, ensuring they are properly secured and comfortable.
Help patients with equipment such as oxygen masks, hoods, or recliners, ensuring proper fit and function.
Chamber Maintenance & Safety:
Equipment Maintenance:
Perform daily inspections of the chambers to ensure they are clean, functional, and free of hazards.
Clean, disinfect, and inspect chamber interiors and exteriors following each use, ensuring compliance with infection control protocols.
Coordinate preventive maintenance and routine calibration of chamber systems, such as oxygen analyzers and pressure regulators, to ensure optimal performance and safety.
Safety Protocols & Compliance:
Strictly adhere to all safety guidelines, including those from the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS), FDA, NFPA, and local health department regulations.
Participate in regular safety drills to prepare for potential emergencies, including fire, power failure, or chamber malfunctions.
Ensure that all equipment, including fire suppression systems, communication systems, and backup power supplies, are functional and ready for use.
Maintain detailed records of chamber maintenance, patient treatment logs, and safety checks.
Administrative & Collaborative Duties:
Patient Records & Documentation:
Document detailed notes on each treatment session, including pressure levels, duration, patient response, and any adjustments made during therapy.
Maintain accurate medical records for all patients, ensuring data confidentiality and proper regulatory compliance.
Team Collaboration:
Work closely with a multidisciplinary medical team, including physicians, nurses, and wound care specialists, to ensure seamless patient care.
Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions about patient progress and treatment plans.
Scheduling & Coordination:
Assist with patient scheduling, coordinating therapy sessions based on availability and treatment plans.
Educate patients and families about the benefits, risks, and aftercare associated with hyperbaric therapy.
Qualifications:
Education & Certification:
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Valid & unexpired medical certification/license
Current certification as an EMT-B/A/I/P, LPN, RT, DMT with ability to obtain reciprocity in Wyoming, if applicable.
CPR/BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
Knowledge of Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is a plus.
Experience:
Minimum 1 year of experience working in a patient care environment.
Knowledge of and experience with common indications for HBOT, including wound care, decompression illness, and carbon monoxide poisoning is preferred..
Experience with medical equipment and the ability to troubleshoot basic technical issues.
Skills & Abilities:
Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow precise medical and technical protocols.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex medical procedures clearly to patients.
Ability to work well under pressure, particularly in emergency or high-stress situations.
Compassionate and patient-focused, with a strong sense of responsibility for patient safety.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift and move equipment (up to 50 lbs) and assist patients physically when necessary.
Must be comfortable working in confined spaces (inside hyperbaric chambers).
Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods during work hours.
Must be able to pass a medical fitness exam to work in pressurized settings (provided by company.)
Compliance with UHMS Guidelines:
The Hyperbaric Technician must comply with all Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) Guidelines and requirements regarding chamber operation, safety, and patient care.
A medical history must be completed as part of the employment process, ensuring that the technician is fit for the demanding physical and environmental conditions associated with hyperbaric therapy, including working in pressurized settings.
