JOB SUMMARY :

This position is responsible for the successful management and administration of the Volunteer Department, in conjunction with best industry standards and in compliance with all regulatory requirements. This position has responsibility for the recruiting, training, and supervision of all volunteers and department staff. The Volunteer Services Manager will work in collaboration with the clinical, marketing, philanthropy and leadership teams to assure that the department aligns with the strategic plan of the organization and serves as a critical bridge for education and advocacy between the community and employees. This position supervises the volunteer coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Bachelor's degree with skills in organization, communication and administration preferred.
  • Experience in health care, not for profit entities or education preferred.
  • Skills in interviewing techniques and ability to assess others strengths and weaknesses.
  • Experience working with volunteers inclusive of supervisory skills, flexibility, and ability to provide informal counseling.
  • Experience dealing with terminal illnesses preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills exhibiting the ability to work and interact with professionals and non‑professionals.
  • Understanding of the Hospice program and goals.

FUNCTION :

  • Build and support a solid, committed team.
  • Establish and initiate new programs as needs evolve to engage the volunteers in the mission, vision and guiding principles of the organization.
  • Maintain all successful programs and continue to strive for best outcomes.
  • Achieve effective community relations, resulting in successful supply of new volunteers and continuous scheduling of current incumbents.
  • Using complete assessment, in consultation with appropriate staff, determine patient / family needs for volunteers; provide oversight in the assignment of volunteers to each patient / family as needed.
  • Represent volunteers at team meetings in regard to matters surrounding individual patients, families, and volunteer needs.
  • Assist patient care staff with determining need for volunteer involvement in bereavement care.
  • Provide supervision and serve as a resource and liaison for volunteer coordinator and volunteers.
  • Co-ordinate educational presentations at monthly volunteer meetings. Attend monthly volunteer meetings.
  • Schedule and attend monthly volunteer support meetings, if held, with volunteers experiencing recent patient deaths.
  • Coordinate and implement ongoing recruitment efforts to increase volunteer interest in the community.
  • Screen and interview potential volunteers, using submitted applications, to approve or disapprove for the organization's training. Interview post-training.
  • Coordinate and supervise volunteer training including development of course, curriculum, obtaining trainers, publicizing training, etc.
  • Sit on appropriate agency committees as requested.
  • Participate in doing community speaking engagements where appropriate for volunteer recruitment or educating the community on HCP services, philosophy, etc.
