CENA Full Time - 6:00am to 6:30pm shifts (72 hours per pay period)

QUALIFICATIONS

1. A nurse aide training and competency evaluation program approved by the State as meeting the requirements of § 483.151 through § 483.154 of this chapter, and is currently listed in good standing on the State nurse aide registry.
2. Current State of Michigan Nurse Aid Certification

SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides direct care to patients in the Hospice Residence including, baths, vitals, back rubs, oral hygiene, shampoos, changing bed linen, housekeeping and laundry.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES (other duties may be assigned)

1. Knowledge of Hospice concepts and philosophy
2. Answers signal lights, bells, or intercom system to determine patient’s needs.                                  
3. Serves and collect food trays and feeds patients requiring help.
4. Changes bed linens, runs errands, directs visitors, and answers telephone.
5. Takes and records temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration rates, and food and fluid intake and output, as directed.
6. Perform personal care needs according to care plan attending to patient’s needs promptly. If unable to perform a task, reports to the residence RN immediately.
7. Meet safety needs of patient using equipment safely and properly.
8. Perform personal care including baths, back rubs, oral hygiene, shampoos, and changing bed linen.
9. Assist in dressing and undressing patients.
10. Assist in preparation of meals
11. Provide proper care and observation of patient’s skin to prevent breakdown.
12. Report patient’s condition and significant changes to the resident RN
13. Assist in ambulation and exercise as instructed by the resident RN or therapist.
14. Offer and assist with toileting including use of bedpans, urinals, or bedside commodes.
15. Provide assistance as required with laundry needs.
16. Perform range of motion and other simple procedures as an extension of therapy services as ordered.
17. Keep patient’s living area clean and orderly by assisting with cleaning of the facility as directed.
18. Adhere to the organization’s documentation and care procedures and standards of personal and professional conduct. Follow Standard Precautions.
19. Assist the patient/family/caregiver and other team members in providing continuity of care including discharge planning.
20. Participate in continuing education to meet state requirements and other job related training. The CENA is responsible for completing 12 hours of in-service training within the period of January to November each year.
21. Applies the principles of Total Quality Management (TQM) consistent with the job expectations.
22. Work in a team environment within the agency and professional discipline.
23. Performs variety of miscellaneous duties as requested.
24. Completes appropriate charting in either written or electronic format.
