Qualification Requirements
- High school diploma.
- Certified Medical Assistant required.
- Minimum of 1 year working in a healthcare office environment with coordinating responsibilities required; experience working with healthcare insurance also required.
- Must have strong data entry and computer skills working within electronic medical records, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Previous experience must demonstrate the ability to effectively manage time, multi-task and meet deadlines.
- Must demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as customer service and phone skills.
- Is a self-starter with the ability to work independently and within an interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrates commitment to the philosophy, goals and objectives of hospice and palliative care.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Responds to incoming calls from patients, families and providers and directs to the appropriate team member; ensures required documentation is completed in a timely manner.
- Collaborates with hospital partners and other team members to manage care transitions and communicate vital information.
- Schedules patient consult and follow-up visits in coordination with provider scheduler and clinic hours.
- Conducts insurance verifications, completes prior authorizations, and enters information into EMR.
- Maintains prior authorization log ensuring extensions are completed in a timely manner.
- Accurately enters referral, admission, insurance, contact, billing and other required information into the electronic medical record system within established timeframes.
- May be assigned responsibilities in the clinic to help facilitate patient care and daily operation.
- Responsible for learning and utilizing technology made available by the agency to increase efficiency, communication and performance of duties.
- Attends staff meetings and completes all mandatory training.
- Holds in strictest confidence all patient information and discloses information and data only to persons authorized by Hospice.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
