Summary of Duties and Responsibilities: The Accountant is responsible for financial reporting, accounts payable, journal entries, reconciliations and other accounting responsibilities, including payroll backup.

Reporting Relationship: Director of Finance
Position Type: Full-Time, benefited, non-exempt
Essential Functions:
1. Under the direction of the Director of Finance (DOF), manage ‘day to day’ financial processes and procedures:
a. Manages online accounts payable system, generates manual checks and offline payments, creates general ledger imports
b. Prepares month end and other journal entries
c. Prepares, analyzes, reconciles, and monitors financial and statistical data for the DOF
d. Interprets government and other outside agencies financial and statistical reporting requirements, assisting with required reporting
e. Assists DOF in budget development and management
f. Assists DOF in year-end audit preparation, compiling documentation, and coordinating with outside auditor for fiscal year audit
g. Prepares and submits tax documents: monthly sales & use tax, annual property tax statement, and others as assigned by the DOF
h. Assists in completion of monthly bank reconciliations for all bank accounts, savings accounts, and investment accounts
2. Serves as back-up for payroll processing
3. Identifies and recommends improvements for all areas of accounting, including month end procedures, annual budgeting process, and financial statements
4. Produces regular reports and other ‘Ad Hoc’ reports on request
5. Ensures all financial statements, tax reports, and other files are prepared timely and maintained in a secure environment
6. Works independently, analyzing and problem solving, while communicating progress to DOF
7. Assists other finance staff as directed by the DOF
8. Participates in various staff meetings and attends education programs as requested
9. Performs other duties as assigned by the DOF
Qualifications:
Education & Experience- Required:
1. Two-year degree in accounting
2. 3 to 5years of relevant experience preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience in accounting
3. Strong computer skills: Word, Excel, and accounting software (experience with PayCom or CYMA a plus)
4. Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships, including within an organization, community, and with a diverse work force
5. Excellent interpersonal skills and written and verbal communication skills to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers, volunteers, agencies and the general public
6. Demonstrate constructive time management, as well as effective conflict resolution, problem solving and delegation
7. Possess and maintain valid California driver’s license, reliable automobile, and evidence of appropriate liability insurance
Education & Experience- Preferred:
1. Four-year degree (BS) in accounting
2. 5 years of relevant experience preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience in accounting
