General Statement of Duties: The Transport Specialist is responsible for the safe operation of non-emergency transport vehicle, including wheelchair and stretcher transports for patients served by Hospice of the Panhandle and Panhandle Palliative Services. This position is responsible for the daily inspection and minor maintenance of non-emergency transport vehicle and it’s relevant equipment. The Transport Specialist will participate in overall transport coordination needs of patients including scheduling transports and communicating with the interdisciplinary team as needed.
Level of Responsibility: Reports to Transport and Volunteer Services Manager. Does not manage other employees.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Acts responsibly and professionally around seriously ill patients.
- Protects the privacy of patient information in accordance with the company policies.
- Operates motor vehicle in accordance with all state laws.
- Monitors traffic and weather reports, to ensure safe and timely transportation; plans travel routes accordingly.
- Transports patients to and from designated destinations.
- Lifts patients on and off stretcher/wheelchair.
- Lifts and moves equipment such as stretchers and wheelchairs.
- Performs basic care services to ensure patient’s comfort during transportation.
- Delivers equipment and supplies, as needed.
- Ensures the company vehicle, seats, stretchers, and wheelchairs are clean and in proper working order.
- Performs simple maintenance on company equipment.
- Immediately reports vehicle problems or incidents.
- Maintains accurate daily records of transports, individuals transported, miles and documents according to organizational policy.
- Restocks necessary supplies in the vehicle.
- Schedules transports after office hours and or in the absences of the Administrative Assistant.
- Collaborates with Triage team to ensure accurate prioritization of scheduled transports.
- Functions as part of an inter-disciplinary team recognizing, reinforcing, and enhancing the role of all disciplines within the team. Communicates with team to provide continuity of care.
- Establishes and maintains good working relationships with the patient and family, coworkers, and outside agencies.
- Collaborates with other company staff during shift to maintain continuity of patient care.
- Reports neglect and abuse to the appropriate authorities following organizational policy.
- Participates in staff meetings, in-services, and staff development to develop and maintain hospice expertise.
- Complies with the employee standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
