The Clinical Educator participates in identifying learning needs of staff, planning, development, and presentation of educational programs including, but not limited to, orientation classes, continuing education classes, internal and external presentations. The Clinical Educator actively participates in the orientation of new employees and the ongoing training and development of paid and volunteer clinical staff at the team level.

WHAT YOU WILL DO: 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • ROLE SPECIFIC: 

• Clinical instruction (didactic)- this role will be responsible for coordinating of didactic schedule for Education Team with focus on Clinical Orientation. Duties will include ongoing content updating as needed, coordination of schedules between internal and external class instructors, development and maintenance of ongoing class schedule in collaboration with team member(s) assigned to online components of educational offerings as well as other agency teams. Will include significant teaching time both in person and virtual. 

• Agency Education initiatives- this role with play a large role in developing and coordinating current and new agency educational initiatives as well as follow up of said initiatives to evaluate ongoing practice change and improved patient care/quality. This will require collaboration and coordination across teams, at times. 

• Admission Specialist- Team member will focus on honing expertise in the hospice admission process, work collaboratively with Care Solutions Center (CSC) to build efficiencies into the admission process to lower barrier to care for patients and their families. Will focus on building skill set of primary team staff in completing admissions efficiently and effectively. Will drive development of plan to meet objectives of role and participate in evaluation as directed by supervisor. 

CLINICAL EDUCATOR (General): 

• Assists the Director in identifying, planning, and developing internal and external educational programs for professionals and the community at large. 

• Develops teaching units using adult learning principles. 

• Teaches content on end-of-life care to employees, external students, professionals, and the community at large as assigned. 

• Assists with coordination of learning experiences with external learners as assigned. 

• Assists with support and coordination of nurses in Nurse Residency program as assigned. 

• Assists with efforts to promote hospice & palliative certification amongst clinical staff. 

• Provides clinical guidance according to policies and procedures, addresses questions and concerns, and serves as a resource to clinical team members. 

• Assists with updating, implementing, and maintaining orientation processes for clinical staff and supporting staff who precept new hires. 

• Assists with orientation and mentoring new clinical employees, including but not limited to: 

• Assists with initial orientation calendar creation and scheduling of orientation classes and pertinent experiences. 

• Meets and collaborates with new team member and team leader at regular intervals throughout 12-week orientation to ensure individualized orientation needs are addressed. 

• Assist team with 1:1 topical coaching of new employee as needed. 

• Teach orientation classes as assigned. 

• Assist with orientation skills lab as assigned. 

• Assist with follow up with new hires for minimum of 6 months, up to 12 months.

• Perform observatory supervised visits for team members in coordination with their competency and performance evaluations, when needed as determined by TL& Clinical Educator in collaboration with Director of Clinical Education & Professional Development. 

• Reinforces agency practices and policies with clinical team members. 

• Aligns clinical guidance with strategic initiatives. 

• Assists in identifying learning needs of staff through formal and informal needs assessment. 

• Assist with education and remediation of team members when requested by Team Leader. 

• Serves as a consultant to staff caring for patients. 

• If needed, assists Team Leaders with creating transition plans for team members transitioning to another team. 

• Assists with the understanding and use of the EMR. 

• Completes annual competency requirements. 

• Serves on Committees as assigned 

• Assists with development of educational material and mandatory education for entry into learning management system (LMS) as assigned. 

• Responsible to practice in accordance with Hospice of the Western Reserve clinical standards of practice, policies, and procedures Demonstrates positive customer service responsiveness according to agency standards. '

• If RN assigned the volunteer team as part of coverage: 

• Acts as a resource to volunteer team members regarding COVID-19 protocols. 

• May be asked to assist with fit testing volunteer team member staff with N-95 masks 

• Maintains Transmission Based Precautions 

• Responsible for annual Hands-On Care and Feeding Class content, skills labs for volunteer staff. 

• Responsible for teaching Comfort Touch Class if not covered by a volunteer nurse, and overseeing the Comfort Touch Program for volunteer staff; serves as a mentor for Comfort Touch Practitioners 

• Collaborates with Education Team in development and presenting of Disease State classes for volunteer staff. If volunteer nurse developing or presenting material, responsible for oversight. 

• Responsible for training and oversight of volunteers who function using their credentials and/or license in clinical roles. 

• Creates and provides continuing education to volunteer staff. 

• Oversees joint visits and competencies of volunteer clinical team members. 

• If/when volunteers move to Learning Management System (LMS) for their orientation and mandatory education, assist with creating material and managing enrollment, tracking of volunteer completion.

SUCCESS CAPABILITIES:

• Registered nurse, BS (MS degree with education emphasis preferred). 

• Experience in clinical hospice care. Experience completing admissions to hospice strongly preferred. 

• Experience in a clinical education setting strongly preferred. 

• Current registration/license. 

• Strong computer skills required. 

• Must be able to teach with groups that may be hybrid of on-site and virtual and have a strong knowledge of pain and symptom management in hospice care. 

• Must be willing and able to travel between sites. 

• Experience/training in Process Improvement preferred

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Compliance to Annual Flu Shot Policy or ability to provide exemption documentation
  • Provide an active auto insurance policy as a licensed driver in the State of Ohio with the proper level of coverage as directed
  • Provide an active driver’s license
  • Ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
