Director of Leadership Giving – Full-Time (Raleigh, NC)

Transitions LifeCare is hiring a Director of Leadership Giving to oversee major and planned giving efforts as part of the Annual Campaign, focused on key programs such as pediatric hospice and palliative care, indigent care, and bereavement services. This full-time role supports the CEO and VP of Philanthropy to cultivate, solicit, and steward gifts through personalized interactions, using tools like Raiser’s Edge (RE / NXT) and Wealth Engine to track and develop relationships with high-level donors.

The Director of Leadership Giving will manage a portfolio of 100-150 major donors, with a specific focus on securing gifts to the William M. Dunlap Leadership Circle ($25,000 ) and increasing planned / deferred giving commitments to the Legacy Society . Regular engagement through personal visits, calls, emails, and written correspondence is essential to ensuring donor retention and increased giving. The Director will also work closely with the Philanthropy team to build a pipeline for annual and memorial giving.

Key Responsibilities :

Portfolio Management (90% of time) :

Manage a portfolio of 100-150 qualified major donors, focusing on Leadership Circle ($25,000 ) and Legacy Society gifts.

  • Meet bi-weekly with the VP to review prospect profiles and create visit briefings.
  • Set and track goals for donor engagement, including personal visits, proposals, and communication.
  • Record donor interactions in RE / NXT and provide regular reports to the VP.
  • Schedule and coordinate cultivation and stewardship events to strengthen donor relationships.

Administrative Support (10% of time) :

Assist with special stewardship activities and Annual Campaign events.

  • Support the Philanthropy team with third-party and agency events.
  • Provide administrative support, including answering calls and promoting donor engagement.
  • Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Human Services, Psychology, Finance, or Nonprofit Management.
  • Minimum of seven years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a focus on major gifts.
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge / NXT or similar donor database management systems.
  • Exceptional people skills with the ability to communicate effectively with donors, volunteers, and internal teams.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • A service-oriented approach with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as required.
